Please join us in congratulating Courtney Gold, RN, on receiving the Excellence in Long Term Care Award from the Maine Health Care Association and the Maine Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.

As a nurse supervisor for Memory Care at The Garden, Courtney has been a cornerstone of our team since 2020. Her leadership, compassion, and extraordinary ability to connect with residents shine through every day, and it shows. She consistently earns Best in Class marks in all areas of the Pinnacle Resident Satisfaction survey, a testament to the trust and comfort she brings to those in her care.

Selected from a pool of 80 nominees, Courtney’s warmth, humor, and dedication make a meaningful difference in the lives of residents and their families. We are incredibly proud of her and grateful for the care she provides!

The first bike rides of the season are rolling in! Last week, our residents kicked off summer with the Portland Wheelers, enjoying fresh air, movement and smiles all around.

We’re thrilled to partner with the Portland Wheelers from June through September. Thanks to their generosity, three adapted bikes will be stored right here at the Senior Health Center, allowing local volunteers to give our residents rides every Monday. On other days, the Wheelers will offer this incredible experience to others in the Brunswick area— helping more people enjoy the freedom of a bike ride in their own communities beyond Portland.

We’re so grateful for this partnership and the dedicated volunteers who make it possible. Here’s to a joyful summer of connection, community and cruising with the Portland Wheelers!

Recently, the Brunswick Middle School band brought joy and patriotic spirit to the MaineHealth Senior Health Center by taking their Memorial Day Parade practice on the road!

The students marched by the Thornton Oaks entrance, continued past the front entrance of Thornton Hall, and wrapped up at the main entrance to the Senior Health Center—bringing smiles and applause along the way.

Residents and staff alike appreciated the special visit and the energy of this mini parade.

Well done to the talented Brunswick Middle Schoolers and a big thank you to their band instructor, Ben Potvin, for making it happen! 🇺🇸🎶👏

Join this fun, lively series of dance classes that help participants build stamina, strength and confidence while moving to music in a non-judgmental atmosphere. Series runs from March 4-April 22. Heather was nominated by a grateful patient’s family, who shared:

💬 “Heather first worked with our father when he entered respite care at Thornton Hall after he broke his wrist. He was not happy to be assisted in his daily routines as this disability required and was frequently unpleasant to caregivers. Somehow, Heather’s respect and humor enabled the two of them to develop a special bond, and my sister and I knew that her presence really brightened his day . . . It seems as if it was particularly Heather’s good cheer and concern that managed to break through his sense of frustration and made it possible for him to accept the staff’s care and attention.”

The Senior Health Center celebrated the holidays with lots of cheer and festivities.
We had a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Clause, a wonderful concert from the Nor Easter Choir, lots of games, holiday crafts, and delicious food!
