Life at Thornton Oaks is as varied and diverse as our residents, who are instrumental in planning and shaping community events. The calendar is filled with daily activities, from book groups and bridge parties to foreign affairs lectures and flower arranging. The Thornton Oaks shuttle bus makes frequent trips to the Bowdoin College pool and local shopping centers, as well as cultural excursions to Portland and Boston.

There are literally dozens of gardens at Thornton Oaks! There are larger gardens at our entryway, off our back patio and a new pollinator garden. We also have 46 cottages and 29 first floor apartments which offer abundant opportunities for personal gardens. There are even raised gardens for people who prefer to work at waist height. We are grateful to all our gardeners who beautify our community.
