Welcome to Sundara Yoga! Where wellness meets you where you are. VISIT: sundarayogame.com

We are a yoga & movement studio located in the heart of brilliant Brunswick, Maine. Though we have plenty of parking, our central location lends itself well to those who prefer to walk or bike from town. Our beautiful, two story wooden post and beam loft space with cathedral ceilings feels like a spiritual sanctuary in the midst of busy downtown Brunswick. We are tucked back just enough on Cumberland that we enjoy easy parking and a quieter street. Sundara Yoga is equipped with a large studio with wood floors, a massage room, a comfortable lobby including retail and a tea bar, a changing room, lavatories, and a zen meditation lounge for more intimate workshops, meetings, or quiet reflection. In the ancient Indian language of Sanskrit, "Sundara" can be translated to mean "beautiful" and "yoga" to mean "union." Together, our name translates to mean "beautiful union." We see our studio as a place where students will unite all pieces of themselves - mind, body, spirit and intuition. Where we will unite community, families, and friends in their respective journeys towards wellness. Whether novice or old pro, we want to meet our students where they are. We are committed to offering high quality classes in a center that honors the practice of yoga and it's lineage. We believe that a sense of well-being includes mindful movement, social support, holistic nutrition, touch therapy, creative expression and spiritual exploration. We aim to bring all of these offerings under one roof. Our classes offer a somatic approach to movement education. Drawing from Laban/Bartenieff fundamentals and body movement analysis, we aim to weave anatomy-informed functional yoga with creative, explorative movement and body work. Our teachers are highly trained and we pride ourselves in taking time to get to know our students individually. In addition to general yoga classes, we offer tumbling and yoga classes for children and specialty classes for women and infants. We hope to bridge the gap that sometimes keeps families from practicing together by welcoming students at all stages of life. We look forward to practicing with you soon!

Tomorrow, we dance.

We dance to grieve, we dance to celebrate the gift of living in a body that can move around freely, we dance to move fear and anger and make space for joy and love. We dance to take up space and to be present in our bodies without outsourcing our discomfort to distraction or dissociation.

Moving your body, caring for yourself, resting… it’s a radical act of resistance in a world that feels positioned to drain us and keep us in fear.

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.”
— Audre Lord, A Burst of Light (1988)

No one will be turned away due to lack of funds. If you need to move your body, come. ❤️

As we approach the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, we’re invited into a different rhythm.

A softening.
A slowing down.
A remembering that rest is not a reward, but a requirement.

This season asks us to listen deeply. To honor the dark, the quiet, the shadows where dormant wisdom awaits. Just as the earth turns inward, so can we…tending the small, steady practices that sustain us through the year.

Your yoga practice doesn’t need to be loud or ambitious right now. It doesn’t need to start over on the 1st or wait for a fresh page on the calendar. It can be simple. Consistent. Gentle enough to begin today, dedicated enough to return tomorrow.

A few mindful breaths.
A commitment to a movement routine.
A class that helps you combat cold temps by building heat from the inside.

These moments matter. They are how we stay connected to ourselves when the days are short and the world feels full.

As the solstice approaches, we invite you to practice not only for transformation, but for tending. Move in ways that feel nourishing. Rest without guilt. Trust that even in the darkness, something is quietly growing.

Please join us this Winter Solstice for two classes led by the lovely .studio ❄️

We are here to support your commitment to yourself today, tomorrow and next year. Let your practice be your lantern through the winter. 🏮

‼️THIS SUNDAY 12/14 4:30pm-6:30pm‼️
A few spots remain in our Pelvic Floor Workshop tomorrow! Please join us for “Stage 2 of Labor: Pushing and Your Pelvic Floor” with our power team, Doctor Jennifer Gelfand, DPT E-RYT and Alayna Lynne, CHC RPYT SpBCPE for this special offering.

This is the final workshop in our birth workshop series and wraps up our Prenatal Series for 2024.

We are so fortunate to be able to host these workshops at Sundara for our birthing population. We believe access to this information can help to increase positive birth outcomes, improve overall satisfaction and increase maternal fetal health outcomes. For this reason, please remember that all of our birth workshops are available to you on a sliding scale pay-what-you-can rate. If you want access, you should have it!

So why should you take a class on pushing before delivery?

☝️Pushing is a learned skill, not just instinct.
While your body does know how to give birth, how and when you push can make a huge difference. Learning effective pushing techniques ahead of time can reduce fatigue, support steady progress, and help you work with your body rather than against it.

✌️It can protect your pelvic floor and reduce tearing. Understanding different pushing positions, breath patterns, and how to slow things down when needed can help minimize strain on the pelvic floor and perineum. This knowledge can support a smoother birth and an easier recovery postpartum.

🤟Your support person becomes a confident, effective teammate! A pushing workshop gives partners concrete, hands-on tools—verbal cues, physical support, positioning, and advocacy—so they know exactly how to help when it matters most. This often leads to a calmer, more supported birth experience for everyone involved. *Partners are welcome but not necessary at this workshop!

We hope to see you Sunday! Please register in advance! 🐣
