Weather-related flare-ups are extremely common. Why?
As we age, recover from injuries, and suffer from arthritic changes, our body becomes less resilient. One’s “weak link” is often an area that can feel weather changes, right as the change is occurring.
While complete prevention of all symptoms is not likely, self-care can be an important component of your response to weather induced symptoms. Dr. Miklos recommends:
1. Gentle Movement. No specific exercise is recommended; however, breaking up sedentary postures to less than 30 minute intervals.
2. Judicious Use of Ice and a Hot shower. Use a hot shower to stretch out involved muscles to encourage improvements in mobility. Otherwise utilize ice. 20 consecutive minutes maximum.
3. Hydrate extremely well. All fluids that do not contain caffeine of alcohol count towards hydration. To reduce muscle spasms, utilize a good source of electrolytes. Dr. Miklos recommends Drip Drop.
4. Eat a Well-Balanced Diet Rich in antioxidants. Choose a natural anti-inflammatory diet to reduce inflammation and pain.
