Have you received a jury summons from the Brush Municipal Court (or recently heard about it) and wondered if it was legit? The answer is yes! While it does not occur very often, Brush Municipal Court does hold jury trials. In fact, the first jury trial to be held in Brush in more than 23 years took place in February of 2024.

If a defendant chooses to enter a Not Guilty plea to certain charges, they may request a trial by jury. The Court is then required to send out jury summons in order to produce a jury pool. From this pool, potential jurors will be randomly chosen and will answer questions from both the prosecution and the defense to determine if they will be seated as a trial juror.

Who receives a jury summons? The Court requests the list of registered voters that reside with the City Limits of Brush. The Court Clerk then uses a randomizer wheel to select who the jury summons will be mailed to. So, if you ever receive a paper that states you’ve been summonsed to appear as a potential juror in Brush Municipal Court, rest assured it is most likely legitimate. If ever in doubt, go ahead and reach out!

The CDOT Revitalizing Main Streets grant that the City of Brush! was awarded last year for the overhead festoon lighting also included resetting the recessed pavers in the downtown area and finishing the pavers on the southwest corner of Clayton and Edmunds. That project is planned to begin next week and will take a couple of weeks. Any disruption should be fairly minimal.
