Update on Dean David

I’m sorry it’s taking me so long to update you guys. Dean David made it to the new hospital and got settled in it was a rough start but it’s gotten much better. They have been setting up all of the therapies getting things in place for him to be able to start school in the hospital.

They’ve also been doing all of the work up to see if Dean David is a candidate to be Tranplant listed. We recently found out that he will be a candidate and he can be listed. We are just waiting to find out about his rejection. Yesterday and today he had rejection treatments and next week he will have a heart cath to see if he’s still in rejection.

Our family has been going through some major things which caused my delay in this update. I was very sick and then hospitalized they suspect I may be at the start of preeclampsia, but they’re trying to watch it closely if I have another high blood pressure like I had the night I was in the hospital then they will have to take the baby early.

Then two nights ago I got a call from Norman when he was on his way home from work he was having chest pain and trouble walking and breathing. So he told me he was gonna be heading to the hospital his mom took him to the hospital in defiance. (I knew this wasn’t good as Norman doesn’t go to the hospital!) The next day they transferred him to Toledo Hospital were later that day he underwent a heart Cath where they found a 90% blockage in his heart, but they were able to put a stent in and he’s feeling much better now at home resting.

Update on Dean David

Dean David and daddy are in route to Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio! Dean David was upset and scared but he is now doing good and just woke up from a nap! This is very overwhelming for him and traumatizing but we’re trying to keep faith that this is happening for a reason!

Update on Dean David

Insurance has approved Dean David’s transfer to Nationwide Children Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Dean David will be transferred tomorrow by ambulance his Dad has taken more time off of work to be able to ride with him! I will head down in the car and meet them at the new hospital.

I’m very upset that insurance is forcing us to transfer to a new hospital when Dean David’s has been at Motts Children’s Hospital since 3 days old. But we’re happy Dean David will be able to get the care he needs and start moving forward with getting him transplant listed!

We don’t know much about the new hospital but we will be taking it 1 step at a time to get him set up for me to head home and have the baby.

Update on Dean David

We didn’t transfer today insurance isn’t wanting to pay to transport Dean David to Nationwide Children Hospital in Columbus, Ohio or for the care he will need! Therapy team is working on this and hopefully we will know more tomorrow.

We heard from Nationwide Children Hospital and they are going to take Dean David!

As of right now we will be transferring tomorrow or Friday but we should know more tomorrow.

Update on Dean David

Dean David is still having headaches and nausea we’re hoping that this is going to continue to improve since he hasn’t thrown up in a few of days. We heard from nationwide children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and they haven’t decided if they are gonna take Dean David or not. They wanted him to have a CAT scan of his chest with contrast which was done earlier today. We’re hoping to hear something tomorrow from nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

I had to come home for a couple of days for a baby appointment. The baby is doing fine and I’m going to be heading back to the hospital.

Update on Dean David

Dean David had a rough night last night he was throwing up and crying in pain with a headache. Today he has still had this headache and been trying to throw up all day and crying. The doctors believe this is because of dehydration so we started with 4 feeds a day this morning. I’m worried that his belly is being overloaded with fluids as they were giving him a lot of Pedialyte the last 2 days!

Dean David’s daddy arrived today to spend sometime with us here at the hospital he also go a surprise visit from his grandma!

Dean David is now resting after yet another medication to help with his head and tummy!

Update on Dean David

Dean David has had a pretty good day though he’s still having a hard time with missing home his family and his dog and cat.

Today I found out for sure that he will not be getting approved to continue care here at the University of Michigan Motts Children’s Hospital.

They have been talking to nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus Ohio, though they had initially said that they would not take Dean because of his antibody count but now they have decided that they will review his full case on Monday.

You guys please pray that if that is where he’s supposed to be he ends up transferring there. When he goes to the new hospital, he will have to be transferred by ambulance in case he was to go into cardiac arrest.

They’ve also decided today to Dean’s G-tube feeds. We worked very hard to get Dean to one feed a day with eating food and drinking at home. But he’s just not wanting to eat and drink like he needs to hear at the hospital so we’re gonna make some adjustments. We’re gonna go from the one feed a day to four feeds a day and see how that works out for him they don’t wanna put extra stress on his heart by him becoming dehydrated.

Other than that, I’m just very exhausted and overwhelmed. but I’m just trying to take it one day at a time. I appreciate all of you guys so much and I’m working on answering comments and messages as I can but as you can understand, Dean David is my first priority. I took a nap with him earlier in his bed and I needed that we’ve had a pretty good day.

Update on Dean David

Update on Dean David’s (CAV) Cardiac Allograft Vasculopathy which is a type of coronary artery disease and people who have had a heart transplant.

This morning at rounds I was updated that Dean David has the highest grade so they have him on a 24 Hour heart monitor in case he wants to go into cardiac arrest. Dean David‘s heart is very sick though we are blessed that he is not showing a lot of symptoms of being sick at this time.

We have also run into a roadblock with insurance as they have denied Dean‘s care here at Motts Children’s Hospital. They are saying that we will have to transfer to an Ohio Hospital though they have denied the transfer at this time. The team is working through all of that, and I am trusting that they’ll get it taken care of. We are very upset about this because Dean David has been here since he was three days old and we have built relationships and trust with these doctors surgeons the whole care team. So we would really appreciate it if you pray that he end up at the hospital, he’s supposed to be at.

Dean David is also having a really hard time with missing home so his behavior hasn’t been the greatest. We’re working through this and we’re trying to keep him busy. He had also been refusing to eat and drink, but he did pretty decent today not as good as I would like but better than yesterday. They’re having to give him Pedialyte through his G-tube on top of his G-tube feed. They don’t want him to get dehydrated and caused stress on his heart.

This has been a lot and so overwhelming and it seems like every time we turn around we get worse news. I’m trying to remember to keep my faith and that God has taken care of him all of this time.

Update on Dean David

Dean David had his 5 year heart cath on Monday and we didn’t get good new!

Me and my sister met with his transplant cardiologist Dean David’s heart is very sick and there’s nothing else they can do for it and Dean David will have to be transplant listed pretty fast if he is a candidate.

He will have to go through the evaluation process to see if he is a candidate or not!
If he is a candidate he will have to live at the hospital again while waiting for a new heart!

Me and Norman had a meeting yesterday to discuss re-transplant and what this would mean. I signed all of the paperwork to move for with the testing to see if he is a candidate. We should know if he’s a candidate or not in the coming weeks.

But his biopsies came back and showed that he was in rejection again so before he can be listed they will have to treat his rejection and he will have to have biopsies showing no rejection before he can be put on the transplant list. But we can still move forward with the evaluation process while they’re trying to treat the rejection.
