Dean David And Life Of A Transplant Mom
I wanted to do this update yesterday, but I was upset because I had to change Dean David's G-tube yesterday. The nurses assisted me, and it went pretty quickly and well. He was upset, but not as upset as he usually is when they do things to him.
I have been changing it for 4 years at home, so maybe that's why it went well. I'm glad it's over, and we don't have to do it for another 90 days. He has to have it because it's how he has been getting all of his nutrition and medications, except for the ones that go through his medical port. So that's done, and I'm glad.
On another note, I'm very worried about Dean David. He isn't wanting to walk anymore; he just wants to go on wagon rides. He's not wanting to be very active anymore, though he is bouncing around in his bed at night. He has energy at times, but you can tell he is starting to get weaker.
We're trying to come up with ways to help him want to go for walks. If you have any ideas, let me know. He just wants to ride in the wagon. I'm glad he still wants to get out of his room and go around the unit, though sometimes he's not being very nice to people.
We're working on that, and he knows if you're not nice, you have to go back to the room. Everyone has been working with him. He is just very irritable and combative because he is tired. He has been here over 200 days and wants to go home. He is tired of them messing with him.
Dean David is also mad at me and blaming me for things, and he is taking it out on my mom too. We just take it day by day. We're not going to take it personally. This is a lot for anyone, let alone a 6-year-old little boy who we love so much.
It's hard seeing him so upset.
The main point is that he's not mad at me, he's not mad at my mom or his dad. He's upset because he's tired of being messed with, and he wants to go home, which is completely understandable.
We're still waiting on a heart. We could get the call at any time. We just don't know. He would have surgery the same day they call us to tell us they have accepted a heart. You guys just keep praying, and we'll just keep taking it day by day, waiting on that heart to come.
Also, I have been working with Dean David on school here at the hospital. Since he's not in kindergarten, he doesn't qualify for hospital school. I'm not even sure if that's what they call it, but it's through the Columbus school district, and it's for K-12.
So, I've been doing homeschooling here at the hospital.
Today, we're going to work on growing crystals with that science kit where you can grow crystals. I'm going to do some videos, and I will post those for you guys.
We've also been working on pen control, writing, science, space, and we're working on manners right now too. I'm trying to keep him occupied right now, and my mom is trying to keep him occupied.
I also made him a new race track on his table yesterday, so he was super happy about that.
For those of you who have been asking, I'm sorry I haven't updated. Wyatt Grady and I are fine. We were rear-ended here in Columbus.
The girl behind us hit us because the guy behind her hit her because, I guess, they weren't planning on stopping at the stop sign. I don't know.
It was pretty overwhelming. I was in a bad car accident a couple of years ago. I called my mom when I was pulling into the parking lot to check the car and everything, and I was shaking. It brought it back for me, but we're okay, and everything else can be dealt with.
I hope everyone has a great Sunday!
I’ll continue to update you guys!
