Are you premenopausal or navigating menopause? Estrogen is vital for more than just comfort!
Estrogen Replacement Treatment (ERT), often part of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), is the most effective way to navigate the changes of premenopause and menopause. In order to get your hormonal levels optimize, you need to be on either or all estrogen, progesterone, or testosterone depending on your lab results.
Here are 5 crucial ways Estrogen Replacement Treatment/Hormone Replacement Therapy supports your health:
🔥 𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐨𝐦 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐟: It is highly effective at stopping disruptive symptoms like severe hot flashes, drenching night sweats, and easing issues like joint pain.
🦴 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Estrogen loss accelerates bone thinning (osteoporosis). HRT significantly reduces bone loss and prevents painful fractures, protecting your mobility for decades.
💖 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡: When started early, HRT can offer protective benefits against the development of 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞.
🧠 𝐁𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: It helps stabilize neurotransmitters, reducing mood swings and irritability, and may offer support against age-related cognitive decline.
✨ 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐱𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡: Effectively relieves 𝐯𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐫𝐲𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 and discomfort (atrophy), dramatically improving quality of life and s*xual health.
To understand why Estrogen Replacement Treatment (ERT) is important, here are statistics on diseases linked to low estrogen levels:
• Younger Women with Coronary Artery Disease (CAD): The Women's Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation (WISE) study found that 69% 𝐨𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐬. In contrast, only 29% of heart-healthy women in the study had low estrogen.
• According to the study of Jia et al. (2024), the depression prevalence in menopausal women was 35.6 % 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲.
• A study conducted by Duke Health researchers found that post-menopausal women who were on hormone replacement therapy (HRT) had a 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐳𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐞𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐇𝐑𝐓. The study analyzed medical records of nearly 2,000 postmenopausal women between the ages of 45 and 60 who had shoulder pain and stiffness. Among those analyzed, only 3.95% of those who received HRT were diagnosed with frozen shoulder, compared to 7.65% of those who did not receive estrogen replacement. Although the differences were not statistically significant, the findings suggest an important potential link between the loss of estrogen during menopause and the development of frozen shoulder — which a larger study may show.
• According to Conde et al (2021), in population-based studies, 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞* 𝐢𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 44% 𝐭𝐨 62% 𝐨𝐟 𝐰𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐩𝐚𝐮𝐬𝐞. One survey found this number to be even higher, with 82% of women aged 45 to 60 reporting memory complaints.
Note: *: often described as "brain fog," forgetfulness, and difficulty concentrating
• A significant reduction was seen in Alzheimer disease incidence in observational studies, often including midlife initiators (RR, 0.78), with up to a 32 % 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐤 conferred by early initiation within five years of menopause.
