Interesting Facts About Hillside Country Living:

*1869 – A proposal was brought before the voters of Williams County for a “county farm” but was defeated by less than 40 votes.

*1871 – Once again a proposal for a “county farm” was brought to the voters and this time was successful by 967 votes.

*1872 – Williams County Commissioners bought 240 acres for $14,000. The original estimate of th

e building project was $13,000 however, the final cost was just over $18,000. The scheduled completion date was 1873, however it was not completed until August 1874. Past Names included: County Farm, Poor House, Old Folks Home and Hillside Nursing Home.

*1967 – A three-story facility was built in 1967 and attached to the original County Home. Originally the third floor was only framed in but was eventually completed.

*1977 – The original County Home building was demolished.

*1993 – (May) The Village, assisted living apartments, were completed. At a cost of $1.3 million and was paid off in 11.5 years.

*1994 – Discussion begins regarding the building of a facility specializing in dementia care.

*1998 – Construction begins on the Heritage and Anna's House facilities. These facilities include a 51 bed skilled nursing facility as well as a 20 bed skilled memory care facility. Occupancy occurred on October 12, 1999 and renovations began on the former three-story nursing home on October 13, 1999. Renovation of the Heights, independent living apartments were completed in February 2000. As you can see Hillside Country Living has evolved over the years. In the beginning and for a length of time this organization was indeed supported by tax dollars and the generosity of the citizens of Williams County. However it has been substantiated that since 1989 Hillside Country Living has not received any financial support through county tax dollars. Hillside Country Living is self-supporting receiving monies via the Medicare and Medicaid programs as well as private pay.
