Krill Funeral Service

Krill Funeral Service Krill Funeral Service provides full service funerals, on-site cremation and pet services to the Northwest Ohio, Northeast Indiana and Southern Michigan area.

Home of the Funeral Doods. We believe that if anyone, or any firm, serves long enough, he will succeed or fail depending on the policy he pursues. In the course of experiencing your faith in us through a century, we have developed a creed that is very sacred to us as we serve you. Each final statement we present to all we serve carries this sentiment. We wish to express to you our sincere sympathy in a time of loss as well as our appreciation for your trust in us. It is our purpose to give you thoughtful service, and if in doing so we have lightened your burden, our aim has been accomplished. We sincerely hope that our service has been deserving of your confidence. We want all to know that this measure of gratitude for our success is always foremost in our thoughts and that your confidence is, and always will be, our sacred trust.

All winter long, the world looks quiet. Wildlife retreats to warm, hidden places. The trees are bare, and the ground is frost-hardened.

But beneath the stillness, something is already beginning.

Spring reminds us that even after the coldest seasons, life finds its way back

Imagine a room filled with people who love you.

They’re sharing stories, laughing, even crying a little. Maybe passing around a box of old photographs. Or tenderly holding one of your favorite mementos.

Someone stands up to speak about you.

What do you hope they say?

Texas, 1935, and mortuary science is overwhelmingly male. The preparation room is tightly guarded as a professional, male space; it's too technical, clinical, and scientific for women.

Hattie Mae Blessing doesn't just want to assist behind the scenes or help with the parts of funeral service that society thinks are “appropriate” for women. She wants to step fully into that room, considered off limits to her s*x, and take responsibility of the work.

And that means getting her license, which she earns despite many obstacles and pushback.

Hattie proved that women belong in every part of the funeral service – including the preparation room, where the quiet, technical care of the deceased takes place.

So cheers to Hattie Mae— 🥂💕

One of the many women who stepped into a profession that wasn’t built with them in mind, helping make sure the next generation would find the door already open.

We'd like to ask a small favor from you, our community.

We’re growing our LinkedIn page so we can share more about the work we’re doing in funeral service — especially our efforts to bring grief therapy dogs into funeral homes and explore how they can support families during difficult moments.

If you’re on LinkedIn, would you consider giving us a follow?

And if you know someone who might enjoy what we share here, we’d love if you passed it along. Every connection helps our small team reach a little further. 💚

In the early 1900s, a woman who wanted to become a mortician faced a big roadblock: There was almost nowhere willing to teach her.

Spanish nurse, Lina D. Odou, founded the Lina D. Odou Embalming Institute in Manhattan in 1901, operating within the Frank E. Campbell mortuary. Lina later founded the Women’s Licensed Embalmer Association, giving women in the field something just as important as training: a professional community.

By creating structured training and education for women, Lina opened a path that had previously been difficult to find. Women who felt called to this work, caring for the deceased and supporting families through loss, finally had a way to answer that call.

Lina reminds us that opportunities don't appear overnight. Someone has to create them.

Do you know why smell is the strongest sense for evoking memory?

It’s the only sense with a direct pathway to the amygdala and hippocampus, the brain’s emotion and memory centers. Unlike sight or sound, smell isn't filtered first. It goes straight to the parts of the brain that process feeling and experience.

That’s why a specific scent can instantly bring you back to a moment, a place, or a person, even after many years. ♥️

Have you met the heart of Krill Funeral Home?

Your first thought might be Oakley and Bentley, our therapy dogs. But behind those wagging tails is a team member who helped make the boys’ comforting presence part of who we are.

Our office manager, Amie, believed that sometimes the quiet comfort of a dog can say more than words ever could. She helped bring that vision to life by helping train Oakley and Bentley and shaping the role they now play at the funeral home: offering steadfast companionship to families during difficult moments.

Of course, that’s only one part of what Amie does. As our office manager, she keeps the funeral home running smoothly day in and day out. From keeping the paperwork flowing, creating meaningful video tributes and managing the behind-the-scenes details, her work helps ensure that every family we serve receives the care and attention they deserve.

(She’s a pretty amazing wife and mom, too.)

On International Women’s Day, we’re grateful for the women whose compassion, ideas, and kindness shape the way we serve our community.

Thank you, Amie, for everything you do. ♥️
