Happy 4th of July from Appalachian DruiD Apothecary!

Cannabis, like speech, conscience, and assembly, falls within the domain of personal liberty—a realm the government was never meant to invade. Its use for healing and reflection predates our laws, and its prohibition stands as an affront to both reason and constitutional principle. To deny citizens access to this plant is not merely misguided policy—it is an erosion of the natural rights enshrined in our founding documents. When the state claims authority over what a free individual may grow, use, or heal with, it steps beyond its just bounds. Such power is not to be ceded quietly. A republic cannot endure where the government presumes dominion over the body and the will of the people. Eternal vigilance, after all, is the price of liberty.

Happy Summer Solstice!

Get outside and play in the dirt and smell the flowers.

Recently it has come to my attention that the states of Georgia and Tennessee have passed and in the case of Georgia already enacted a law prohibiting the sale of h**p flower. Sadly, I was caught off guard by this. Though I don't offer up my CBD products online I felt I would be remiss if I failed to make the public aware of these changes.

These laws are a problem. I'm very selective about sourcing materials that I don't grow or forage myself. When finding a trusted source and then having the rug pulled out from under me because they can no longer sale the product used in making my product it's like a punch in the face. Partly because to hurts my ability to help others but also because it is an unnecessary law that's based on fear.

I understand that there's a lot of fear and confusion around the legalization of this plant back in 2018. If you are unfamiliar with it or even among those who think it's "the devil's lettuce" or this evil plant, I strongly encourage you to do your research. It's medicinal value, not just to cancer and chronic pain patients.

I'm going to borrow a quote from Jim Hogshire who was making an argument for free access to the poppy. Substitute any natural medicine and the quote still works.

"The Poppy's central and indispensable position in our civilization makes access to it important. And thus, forbidding public access to the poppy is staggeringly cruel. Seceding control of opiates means seceding control of pain relief to the state. Which has shown truly morbid interest in inflicting pain and denying its relief in order to effect social change and maintain social control. This is power that free people should never relinquish easily or without a fight."
