As we shine a spotlight on skin health this month, it’s the perfect time to review the ABCs of melanoma detection. Early identification can save lives, so remember:
A is for Asymmetry—one half of the mole doesn’t match the other. Tip: Draw a line through the mole. If the two halves don’t match, it can be a warning sign for melanoma.
B is for Border—look for edges that are irregular or blurred. The borders of an early melanoma often are uneven
C is for Color—watch for varied shades of brown, black, or even red and blue. Most benign moles are one color.
D stands for Diameter—melanomas are often larger than a pencil eraser.
E is for Evolving—any change in size, shape, or color is a red flag. When a mole is evolving, see a board-certified dermatologist.
Regular skin checks and sun protection are key. If you notice anything suspicious, don’t wait! Schedule an appointment today by booking online or calling 610-525-5028. Thanks to Dr. Ryan for this wonderful education!
