I thought it would be a good time to re-introduce myself.
Hi, I’m Karolina. A licensed and certified psychotherapist specializing in women’s wellness and maternal mental health. I support women across the lifespan, especially through pregnancy, postpartum, and all the complicated, in-between parts of motherhood. I work with women in PA and DE plus across the ocean in my home country- Poland - as a Postpartum Support International volunteer coordinator.
🌷
I believe that motherhood isn’t just about the baby.
It’s also about you—your identity, your mental health, your experience.
I’m here to talk about it in a real, honest, no-judgmental way.
If you’re a mom (or becoming one) and some of this resonates—you’re in the right place.

You can love your partner deeply…and still feel furious with them after having a baby. Both can exist.
Postpartum relationships are rarely talked about honestly. What many mothers experience is a confusing mix of love, gratitude, resentment, exhaustion, and loneliness — sometimes all in the same day. Not because your relationship is broken. But because motherhood is intense:
Sleep deprivation, hormonal shifts, carrying the invisible mental load and a body and identity that changed overnight. It’s a lot for one nervous system and one partnership to absorb.

Resentment in postpartum is often less about your partner and more about how overwhelmed and alone you feel inside the responsibility of it all.

If this post felt a little too accurate, here’s a good place to start:
Try opening up about the feeling before it turns into a bigger fight and before your anger takes control. You might say something simple like:
“I think I’m getting very overwhelmed and I need more support right now. I feel like I’m running on empty.”
Not perfectly. Not always calmly. Just honestly.
Most partners can’t see the invisible load unless it’s spoken out loud.

Save this for the day when your feelings feel confusing.
Or send it to a partner who genuinely wants to understand you better.

Is “mom brain” real? Yes — but not the way you think.

We joke about “mom brain.”
But neuroscience tells a different story.
Pregnancy and postpartum don’t shrink your intelligence.
They reorganize it.
Motherhood literally reshapes the brain to:
• Read baby cues faster
• Adapt under pressure
• Predict needs before others notice
• Switch tasks rapidly
• Problem-solve in real time

Mothers don’t multitask better — they adapt faster.
They don’t overthink — they anticipate.
They don’t panic under pressure — they endure it.
And yet society calls this “just being a mom.”
When women’s labor is expected, it’s often minimized.
Motherhood is a neurological transformation.
Not a weakness. Not a regression. Not something to laugh off.

If you’re navigating postpartum mental health, exhaustion, or identity shifts — your brain isn’t broken. It’s working overtime. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s not because you’re incapable — it’s because your brain is carrying invisible cognitive labor every single day.

If you’ve ever wondered whether “mom brain” means something is wrong — it doesn’t.
It means your brain adapted.
And adaptation under constant pressure is extraordinary. You are extraordinary!

Healing is not a RACE. It’s not a tournament. It’s not a competition.
There’s no gold medal for “getting over it” faster.
Mama, just because someone else looks like they’re thriving doesn’t mean you’re falling behind.

✨ You don’t need to feel guilty if your healing is taking longer.
✨ You don’t need to “catch up.”
✨ You’re allowed to go at your own pace.

If comparison is creeping in, try this:

💛Limit scrolling — Social media is a highlight reel, not the whole story.
💛Use affirmations like: “I am not behind. I am exactly where I need to be.”
💛Talk it out — comparison often fades in safe, validating spaces. A trusted friend or therapist can help.
💛Track your growth — not hers, not theirs. Yours. Small wins count.

🌱 You’re not weak for needing time. You’re human. And healing isn’t linear.

I took a break from social media this summer… not because I had to, but because I needed to.

I wanted to be present—with my family, my child, and myself.
To have slow mornings without rushing to check notifications.
To play, rest, travel a little, and actually feel the moments I’ve been missing in the noise.

And no—I wasn’t “doing nothing.”
I read books I’ve been putting off.
I played in the sand with my little one.
I recorded a new podcast episode.
I wrote a few blogs that had been sitting in my drafts for months.
I tried new recipes, wandered through ancient ruins, and stood still—mesmerized by the beauty of the world.

That time away reminded me what’s truly important: connection, curiosity, laughter, and the people right in front of me.

As a therapist (and a mom), I talk about rest and boundaries all the time—but this was my reminder to actually practice them. I needed to reset and recharge—and honestly, you might too.

These are the 5 lessons that helped me come back feeling grounded and realigned—with my work, my family, and myself. 💛

💬 Which one resonates most with you? Or maybe you’re in your own “step back” season—tell me what it’s teaching you.

🌿 Sometimes the reset we need isn’t another goal or plan—it’s simply presence.

A few weeks ago, I had the privilege and a wonderful opportunity of being a guest on the ‘I am One Podcast’, where I shared my personal and professional journey with birth trauma and medical gaslighting that I experienced. It was a wonderful opportunity to open up a conversation about our experiences during labor and how that shapes our perception of who we are, what happened to us, and how we cope with all the invisible, isolated, and often dismissed feelings associated with it…. Read more in my newest blog post below:

Explore how birth trauma and medical gaslighting affect mothers beyond a healthy baby, impacting mental health, trust, and postpartum healing.

Thank you I Am One Podcast for having me! 🎙️
A huge thank you to Dani & Emily, the amazing co-hosts, for giving me the space to share my story and, hopefully, empower others to speak up and find their voice—the voice I once thought I didn’t have.

In this episode, I open up about both my personal and professional experiences with birth trauma and medical gaslighting—conversations we need to start having more openly.

And for a true motherhood moment 😅… skip to minute 68 to hear my baby’s very long (and very loud) “Mamaaaaa!” Yep, this is motherhood in its rawest form. :)

I hope this episode inspires you to listen, share, and most importantly—find your own voice. 🎙️✨

It’s Infertility Awareness Week, a time to acknowledge the often hidden struggles that touch 1 in 6 people. Infertility can look so different—miscarriages, failed treatments, unanswered questions, waiting, hoping, grieving. Every experience is unique, and every emotion valid. If you or someone you love is walking this path, know that you are not alone—I see you, I honor your story, and I hold space for you with compassion and care.🧡.

Motherhood looks different around the world, and moving between cultures can bring unexpected surprises! From maternity leave policies to postpartum support, the differences between the U.S. and Poland are eye-opening. However, no matter where we leave, there is still stigma around perinatal mental health, societal pressure, lack of suport, unrealistic expectations, and poor understanding of mother’s needs. Adjusting to motherhood in a new or old culture feels simply overwhelming.
I am a therapist, born and raised in Poland, who had two kiddos here, in US. My journey into motherhood and transitioning to a new culture had made me more mindful, more understanding, and even more compassionate. I see you, I hear you, and I understand you, mama! You are not alone! 💛
