Shrubby Yellowroot (Xanthorhiza simplicissima) in bloom. I rarely catch a glimpse of it at this stage.

A beautiful old Southern folk medicine plant, typically found along stream banks. Mine is happy in a partially shaded moist patch in the garden.

- High Berberine content
- Antibacterial
- Anti-inflammatory
- Bitter tonic

I like to chew on the stems and end up with the corner of my mouth stained afterwards. 😁

When you are an herbalist who makes their own small batch products, some days feel like 95% of it is washing bowls, equipment, tools, and hands a bunch of different times. 😂
Anybody else with me?

(It's still the most fun job and I wouldn't change a thing)

This song runs through my mind every time I wake up to a beautiful day like this one. I loved the Brady’s when I was kid and this song always stuck with me. “Gotta get out and get some of those raaaaays!” 😂☀️

Let me know if y’all stumble upon anything exciting out there in your adventures. Drop your pics in the comments and let’s make each others days even brighter!

Since I posted the Partridge Family’s “I Think I Love”, to be fair here’s a song from “The Brady Bunch”. Unlike “I Think I Love You”, “Sunshine Day” did not...

My Story

All of my life, I have been in a deeply connected relationship with the natural world. This connection has led me to a deep understanding of plants and the medicines they can offer. us I make simple herbal and plant based remedies for common ailments and first aid needs, as well as, more nourishing extracts, skin & self care items for those who want to move beyond using only what is available from drugstores and pharmaceuticals. I am an herbalist experienced in the folk and wise woman traditions, and am always continuing my education through hands-on workshops, online courses, lessons from herb-wise elders, and from the plants themselves. After making remedies for myself and my loved ones for several years, I decided to open The Cat & The Crow as an online shop in September of 2019. It has been such a great experience connecting with people from all over the world and seeing them receive the healing they need from these plants. Most of my offerings are made from organically grown/pesticide free plants and herbs that I grow on my own land, or that I have wild harvested in a sustainable way. If I didn't grow or harvest an herb myself, I am sure to only use organic products from a reputable source. My creations are made in small batches and slow processed over a long period of time to extract the very most of the healing properties that the plants have to give. My ultimate goal is to help reconnect people with the healing properties of the plants that grow right outside our doorstep, easily accessible to everyone. Humankind grew alongside the plant kingdom, but over the last few generations that connection has been dismembered and lost for many reasons. When we use plants as food and medicine, our bodies remember exactly how to use them for the highest benefit. I want to help people re-member that ancient relationship and rekindle the connection of working with nature, while at the same time, protecting it.
