Voccio Viewpoint 8/22/25: Dr. Gary Voccio, health director for the ten-county Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District, today continues to express concerns about lower-than-optimum children's immunization rates, particularly pertussis (DTaP) and measles (MMR). He notes we're seeing a significant increase this year in pertussis (whooping cough) cases. He also worries about low childhood polio vaccination rates in Northwest Georgia and encourages parents to follow the recommended childhood vaccine schedule.
