This is a clinical research study from Eli Lilly and Company. It is testing if the investigational medicines (the medicines being studied) can help people with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes reduce their body weight. The study will also test if the investigational medicines can help participants manage their blood glucose (sugar) levels.

As we celebrate African-American Scientist and Inventor Day during Black History Month, KUR Research would like to recognize two contemporary black investors/scientists whose work has changed the world and improved lives. One such person is TJ Falohun. According to the Smithsonian’s Lemelson Foundation, Falohun is creating a low-cost, user-friendly device that can diagnose diabetic eye disease outside of a clinical setting. Falohun is committed to helping underserved communities which are disproportionately affected by diseases like diabetes.

We would also like to highlight Dr. Arlyne Simon for her work as a biomedical engineer and the inventor of a patented blood test that detects when cancer patients are rejecting bone marrow transplants. In addition to these medical advances, Dr. Simon wrote a children’s book series “Abby Invents” that introduces kids to problem-solving and the invention process with the goal of encouraging them, especially young women, to pursue STEM careers.
