Friendly reminder as we head into the New Year 💛

Yes, the gym is about to get more crowded.

Yes, you might have to wait a little longer for a machine or the dumbbells you want.

But that’s not an invitation to get irritated.

For some people, the new year will be the very first time they’ve ever stepped foot in a gym. They’re nervous. They’re unsure. They’re wondering if everyone is watching them or judging them, even when no one actually is. (This is called Spotlight Syndrome.)

Most people don’t quit because they’re lazy. They quit because they feel uncomfortable, out of place, or unwelcome.

I know this personally. One of the main reasons I stuck with my fitness journey when I first started was because the people in my gym were incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful. They answered questions, offered encouragement, and made me feel like I deserved to be there even when I didn’t feel confident yet. That made all the difference.

So if you see someone struggling, consider helping. If someone’s moving slowly or looks confused, give them grace.

And please — don’t hover, sigh, or roll your eyes while waiting for equipment.

You could be the reason someone keeps showing up…
or the reason they decide after a few days that the gym “just isn’t for them.”

We all started somewhere. Let’s make the gym a place people feel supported — not intimidated.

A little patience and a little kindness goes a long way. 💪✨
