❄️ Extreme Cold Weather Safety Reminder ❄️

With dangerously cold temperatures expected, we want to remind everyone to take extra steps to stay safe and warm.

🧥 Protect yourself from the cold

Dress in layers and cover exposed skin (hat, gloves, scarf).
Limit time outdoors when possible.
Keep your home heated and block drafts.
Eat regular meals and drink warm fluids.

⚠️ Know the warning signs of cold-related illness

Uncontrollable shivering
Confusion or slurred speech
Extreme fatigue
Numbness or pale/blue skin

If you or someone you know shows these symptoms, seek medical care immediately.

🏠 Need help finding shelter?
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, living in a trailer without adequate heat, or does not have a safe place to stay during extreme cold:
➡️ Call the Coordinated Entry Call Center at 844-900-0500 or call 211.
They can help connect individuals to emergency shelter, warming centers, and other local resources.

🤝 Check on others
Please check on neighbors, older adults, and anyone who may be at higher risk during this cold weather. A quick call or check-in can make a big difference.

🌲 Welcome Our New Providers to Northern Pines Health Center! 🌲

We are excited to welcome Abby St. Louis, FNP-C and Tessa Sprague, PA-C to the Northern Pines Health Center team!

Abby St. Louis, FNP-C is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner with more than nine years of healthcare experience, primarily in cardiac intensive care. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Northern Michigan University and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Michigan–Flint. Abby has also served as a clinical nursing instructor at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, mentoring future nurses.
Born and raised in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Abby values accessible rural healthcare and is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to help patients stay healthy and thrive. Outside of work, she enjoys cooking, traveling, cheering on sports teams, and spending time outdoors with her husband and their Golden Retriever, Breck.

Tessa Sprague, PA-C is a nationally certified Physician Assistant. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Michigan Technological University and her Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Central Michigan University. Tessa began her career practicing rural medicine in Georgia, where she cared for both adult and pediatric patients.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Tessa now resides in Traverse City and is excited to continue serving patients in a rural healthcare setting.
