Meet our July Employee of the Month… Amber!

Amber Miller is our receptionist and also helps out in activities. During her 2 years as a part of our team, Amber has enjoyed building relationships with the residents and watching them succeed. Her motivation to come to work every day is being able to be a part of a great team and work environment. When asked what advice she would give to new employees joining the team, Amber stated, “Smile. You never know if someone’s having a rough day. Your smile could change someone’s day.

Amber has a dog and a cat. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her nieces and nephew, reading, and enjoying the outdoors. A fun fact about Amber is that her favorite food is Mexican!

We are so thankful to have Amber as a part of our team, and we can’t wait to see what her future has in store for her. Congratulations, Amber! 💙

Last month, one of our residents had the privilege of participating in the Honor Flight at Home - Marion.

The Honor Flight is a national network dedicated to celebrating America’s veterans. While the traditional Honor Flight involves a trip to Washington, D.C., the “at home” version was created to honor those who are unable to travel. The Marion event began in 2018 and continues to recognize and celebrate local veterans.

Altercare Bucyrus resident Floyd was one of 20 veterans in attendance this year. Floyd served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class from 1961 to 1963, working as a helicopter mechanic stationed in Germany. Fellow honorees included veterans who served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, and Gulf Wars.

During the event, guests viewed a video of the Washington, D.C. Honor Flight, heard from a retired Colonel, and enjoyed music that paid tribute to all branches of the military. Each veteran was gifted a quilted lap blanket, a commemorative Honor Flight book, and a booklet highlighting the monuments of our nation’s capital.

It was an incredible honor for Floyd, and we are truly grateful for the opportunity to celebrate one of our own from the Altercare family. 💙

Last month, we celebrated the first day of summer with our Annual Summer Social, benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. The day consisted of two food trucks, Grubb Brothers and Flavors-J's, activities, treats, and musical entrainment by Elvis impersonator, Lonnie Freeman. We also had a DJ, Wyatt Young, who was there to assist with music and announcing winners of the raffle baskets, which were gratefully donated from local partners. We ended the afternoon with our pie in the face contest featuring Faith Taylor, Amber Morgan, Eryn Williams, Kendal Schwarz, and Katie Chaplin. We had a great turn out this year and everyone had so much fun. Thank you to everyone who supported and helped make this event wonderful! 💜☀️

Meet Malinda! ⭐

Malinda is an LPN and has been a part of our Altercare team for almost 9 years. To ensure that she provides the best possible care to the residents, she makes sure to talk to the residents, allowing her to notice the small things as well as concerns or changes. When asked what advice she would give to someone who is just starting their career in healthcare, she stated, “Treat them as you would your own family. Get to know them!”

Malinda and her husband, Michael, have a big family! She has four daughters, 10 grandchildren, and another one on the way. In her free time, she likes to spend time with family and craft. A fun fact about Malinda is that she can ride a dirt bike.

“I choose Altercare because I care about my residents and want to provide them a safe and caring environment.”

Meet Jennifer!⭐

Jennifer is our Medical Records Coordinator and has been a part of our Altercare team for three years. Her favorite part of her job is being able to talk and visit with the residents. To ensure that she provides the best possible care to the residents, Jennifer makes sure to spend time with the residents and listen to their concerns. When asked what advice she would give to someone just starting their career in healthcare, Jennifer stated, “Have patience and good time management skills. You’re always learning something new.”

Jennifer and her husband, John, have four sons, one stepson, and two dogs. In her free time, she likes to read, do Sudoku puzzles, and play Frisbee golf with her husband and kids. A fun fact about Jennifer is that according to her kids, she makes the best Kool Aid pie!

“I choose Altercare because my stepmom works here. I applied for the position and three years later, I’m still here. I work with great coworkers and the residents are the best! I’m grateful to be able to do both management work and continue to work on the floor as a nurse when needed.”

Meet Nancy! ⭐

Nancy Maxfield, RN, BSN, RAC-CT is our MDS Coordinator and has been a part of our Altercare team for 13 years. To ensure she provides the best possible care to the patients, Nancy said that she tries to view things from the perspective of the residents and their families. When asked what advice she would give to someone who is just starting their career in healthcare, Nancy stated, “There are so many options in healthcare. If one area isn’t working for you or you are getting burnt out, try an alternate path!”

In her free time, Nancy likes to do outdoor activities like gardening, playing tennis, biking, and playing disc golf. She also enjoys reading and crocheting. A fun fact about Nancy is that she taught herself how to knit last year.

Meet Brenda! ⭐

Brenda Mutchler, Admissions Coordinator, has been a part of our Altercare team for 8 years. Her favorite part of her job is getting to participate in community events. She also loves getting to meet and help the residents and families. When asked what advice she would give to someone just starting their career in healthcare, Brenda stated, “Listen to the residents and always remember why you chose healthcare.”

Brenda and her husband Tim have two children, one grandson, and another grandchild on the way! She also has one dog, Hank, and three cats. In her free time, Brenda enjoys spending time with her family. She also likes going for walks, working in her garden, and doing crafts. A fun fact about Brenda is that she is a picky eater.
