Now APT approved!! Supervision and multicultural competency credits as well as skills and methods! Sandtray Play Therapy and Expressive Arts as a Tool for Multicultural Competency in Supervision is happening September 27, 9-12, in Austin, Tx and will count for live credits! There is a hybrid option for in person or virtual (virtual space is limited).

I’m excited about the experiential work that is done in this workshop, as you explore your own intersectionality and how it influences your work with clients.

Meet our trainers!

Melissa received her Bachelor’s in Applied Learning and Development in 1999 and a Master’s in Educational Psychology in 2004, both from The University of Texas at Austin. She spent 17 years working in schools and 12 of those years as an elementary school counselor. After attending a CEU on using sandtray in the playroom, her love and inspiration for sandtray overwhelmed her. Melissa began using the tray in her counseling office and was honored to witness many of her students’ worlds. Sandtray was a valuable tool for the overwhelming needs in the elementary school. She was so inspired by witnessing sandtray worlds, that she decided to become a Licensed Professional Counselor and share her love for sandtray in private practice. Melissa opened her own practice in 2016 and currently works with children, their parents, and young adults in Buda, Texas. She became a Clinical Certified Sandtray Therapist-Trainer in 2020. In the past, Melissa has served as president of Austin SandTray Association, as well as Capital of Texas Counseling Association. Melissa enjoys trainings ( attending and leading), Supervising associates, and sharing her love for play therapy. In her free time, Melissa enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two daughters, and three energetic dogs.

Welcome to Healing Hearts Play Therapy Training and Retreats. We are excited to begin this new adventure and share our love of play therapy with our fellow healers. In the upcoming months, check back in to find out more about our experiential and playful training opportunities. We will be offering both in person and virtual training to receive Association for Play Therapy continuing education credits on history, ethics, theory, special topics skills, and of course, our beloved, sandtray. In addition to training, we also be offer ongoing sandtray supervision and consultation to become a Registered Play Therapist. We look forward to hosting healers at our new treehouse training center just south of Austin in Buda, Texas.
