Shame tells us we are our mistakes. God’s mercy tells us we are His beloved children. Practicing self-compassion is aligning our hearts with how God already sees us.

Ways to combat shame & self-compassion:
acknowledging our mistake
Reflecting on what could be done differently, in case you have the same experience again

Many of us struggle with negative self-talk, that quiet voice that says “I’m not enough” or “I’ve failed too much.” As Catholics, we are reminded that our worth comes from God, not our mistakes.

Next time these thoughts pop-up ask yourself, Would I speak this way to someone I love?

Ways to deal with self-talk:
1. Challenge your negative self-talk. Ask yourself, ‘Why is this thought right?’
2. Stay present with breathing and activity to occupy the mind.
3. Surround yourself with support.

Even David spoke to himself:
Psalm 42:6, 12 & 43:5: "Why are you downcast, my soul, why do you sigh within me? Hope in God! For again I shall praise him, my savior and my God."

“Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you.” — Psalm 55:22

GriefShare is a grief recovery support group where you can find help and healing for the hurt of losing a loved one.

In moments of grief, prayer doesn’t have to be perfect; sometimes it’s simply sitting with God and saying, “I’m hurting.” Grief and faith coexist. When Jesus wept, he called on the Father. Resolving grief calls for reliance on God’s gift of faith.

Ways to combat grief & faith:
A. Practice self-care
1. Eat well, hydrate, rest, light exercise
2.Create a routine: stability comes from simple daily structure. Plan a list of goals and small milestones to attain goals.
3.Find meaningful ways to remember your loved one (photos, stories, memories)

B. Acknowledge & express grief
1.Give yourself time to feel sad, angry, denial. It’s expected.
2.Share feelings/memories with trusted friends, family, in therapy, or clergy.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” — Matthew 5:4
