Learn about the platsyma muscle and how to do a 30 second muscle release on your own:

Many people talk about jawlines- fillers, creams, gua sha... but very few people are talking about the actual muscle that can pull the face downward: the platysma.

The platysma is a thin, sheet-like muscle that runs from your chest up over your jaw and into your lower face. Its job? To pull things down. ⬇️

So when it’s tight… everything it connects to can start to look heavier.

Most people blame posture (and yes, “tech neck” plays a role), but there’s another piece that often gets missed:

👉 Tension in the mouth.

If you have a history of oral ties (tongue tie, lip tie) or lingering oral tension patterns (clenching, restricted tongue movement, shallow breathing) that tension doesn’t stay isolated, it travels.

The tongue, jaw, and neck are deeply connected through fascial lines. When the tongue can’t move freely or the mouth is compensating, the neck often overworks to stabilize. Over time, that constant pull feeds right into the platysma.

And when the platysma tightens?
It can deepen marionette lines
Soften or blur the jawline
Create that “pulling down” effect in the lower face
You can’t fully lift what’s being pulled from below.

Try this 30-second Platysma Release:
1. Sit up tall and place your hands just below your collarbones
2. Gently anchor the skin downward
3. Tilt your head back and slightly to the side
4. Slowly open and close your mouth (like a fish 🐟)
5. Breathe and repeat 5 times each side

✨ As you do this, notice your tongue- can it rest gently on the roof of your mouth, or does it feel tense or restricted?

Here’s the bigger picture:
Lasting change in the face isn’t just about the face.
It’s about:
The tongue
The jaw
The neck
The fascia connecting it all
When you start releasing these deeper
patterns, especially oral tension, you’re not just improving function… you’re allowing your natural structure to come back online.

Enjoy this simple self care exercise and let me know how it feels for you!

I’m often asked if I work with adults, since I share so much about craniosacral therapy for infants and children, but it’s not just for little ones.

I work with adults too, and the benefits can be profound. Craniosacral therapy supports the nervous system, helps release long-held tension patterns, and encourages the body’s natural ability to regulate and heal.

I’ve also had additional, extensive , training in intraoral work: a gentle approach that can support both children and adults. It can be especially helpful in preparing the body for dental or oral procedures, and in supporting recovery afterward- helping to ease tension, improve mobility, and bring more comfort and balance to the jaw, tongue, and surrounding structures.

Adults often seek sessions for stress, anxiety, chronic pain, injury recovery, or simply to reconnect with a sense of balance and calm.

This work meets you exactly where you are 🤍

I wanted to share a little update on this beautiful family I spoke about recently 🤍

Baby girl continues to amaze me.

She is laughing. Smiling. Fully expressing her joy. She’s now holding herself steady through her hands with strength and confidence, lifting her legs and bottom into the air with ease. She can sit upright without collapsing into old tension patterns. The tightness that once lived in her tiny body is quite literally melting away.

Even her cranial structure is beginning to even out after the vacuum-assisted birth. As restrictions release, her whole system is reorganizing with more freedom and balance. When the body no longer has to guard and brace, it can finally grow and develop the way it was designed to.

But what moved me just as much yesterday was mom and dad.

Their energy was softer. Calmer. More regulated. There was a noticeable peace between the three of them. Baby feels safer. And when baby feels safe, everyone exhales.

This journey isn’t “done” - healing is layered and ongoing, but witnessing these shifts in real time is such an honor. I am continually reminded that I am not the one doing the healing. I simply hold space and support the nervous system as it finds its way back to balance.

Craniosacral therapy is incredibly gentle, yet profoundly effective. When we address restrictions early in life, we’re not just helping milestones — we’re supporting a foundation for regulation, resilience, and connection.

My heart is so full watching this family step into more ease together. 🤍

There are moments in this work that truly take my breath away.

Recently, I had the honor of working with a sweet 10-month-old baby girl and her mama after a traumatic birth experience. Without sharing details, I can say there had been a lot of stress on both of their nervous systems from the very beginning. Baby’s body was holding so much — tension patterns, startle responses, a constant sense of alertness. Tummy time felt overwhelming. Her little arms were floppy, her legs stuck in a “frog” position, and she just didn’t seem to feel safe in her own body.

And mama… mama was carrying it all too. The worry. The questions. The lingering weight of a hard start.

Over the course of three gentle craniosacral sessions, I witnessed one of the most beautiful transitions. Baby began to soften. Her nervous system settled. She started enjoying tummy time, lifting her own head, bearing weight through her hands. Her legs came underneath her body. She began pushing up, sticking her little bottom in the air, preparing to crawl. The anxious, hard-to-soothe energy shifted into giggles, curiosity, and newfound strength.

Nothing I do “fixes” anyone. I simply facilitate space for the body to unwind and remember what it already knows how to do. Watching a family trust the process — especially when they’ve felt unsure or discouraged — is such a gift. Their determination and willingness to receive support made all the difference.

This work is so gentle. So respectful. And yet incredibly powerful for infant development — and truly for all ages. When we help regulate the nervous system and release restrictions in the body, everything else has a chance to reorganize and thrive.

I am so grateful to work with families as a unit. Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens in relationship. And being invited into that space is something I never take for granted.

My heart is full. 💛

The sphenoid bone plays a pivotal role in craniofacial growth and neurological development, influencing nine of the twelve cranial nerves. Because it sits at the center of the cranial base, even subtle restrictions here can echo throughout the entire system.

When the sphenoid isn’t moving with ease, it may show up as facial asymmetry, challenges with eye tracking, visual disturbances, headaches, or difficulty with regulation.

These early signs are the body’s way of asking for support.
In craniosacral therapy, we gently assess the motion of the sphenoid and its relationship with the surrounding cranial bones, membranes, and nervous system. By supporting balanced cranial motion, we help create the conditions for improved neurological function, regulation, and healthy development- especially in growing children.

Sometimes the work is incredibly subtle. But subtle doesn’t mean insignificant.
