When Tom arrived at Mercy Hospital after being exposed to toxic phosgene gas, his condition was so rare that his care team had to learn everything they could in a matter of hours. Dr. Wilcox immediately researched similar cases from across the world, while the ICU team and surgeons prepared lifesaving interventions that had never been used in the U.S. for this kind of exposure. Their teamwork, quick thinking, and willingness to go above and beyond gave Tom a second chance.
