WEBSITE AT BOTTOM
Currently, 17,000 children are living in poverty on Buffalo's east side. Many of these children look to Harvest House for basic needs: clothing, diapers, hygienic baby supplies, crib,s car seats, and other necessities. Imagine your child not having access to these!

To help this community Harvest House runs a month long clothing drive we call our "Baby Shower".

To help this community, Harvest House runs a month-long clothing drive we call our "Baby Shower". We need volunteers to help sort donations, as well as write inspiring notes for mothers and children who are facing these difficult times head-on.

If you have a heart for young families we encourage you to come along side us in supporting the young families of Buffalo!

We are so proud of the hardwork Celina Bryan is doing in the community!

Alpha Medical Transportation would like to highlight this wonderful Community Leader:
Celina Bryan
Director of Housing
Harvest House Buffalo

Harvest House Buffalo is a community non profit organization that focuses on the wellness of Buffalos neighborhoods. They assist with medical, dental, children's clothing and toys, adult education programming, fresh produce, and housing for marginalized and low income individuals and families. We are thrilled to spotlight their Director of Housing, Celina Bryan.

Miss Bryan sits on many advocacy committees in her community in order to give a voice to the most marginalized and under represented populations. On the Advocacy Committee of the WNY Coalition for the Homeless, she feels a sence of empowerment working with others dedicated to the same causes. When she has spare time, she would help out at the shelter. Off the clock, she has a group of individuals that she mentors toward success. She is passionate about giving charity and being a support to many individuals in her life.

In her role as Director, Celina supervises a team of amazing case workers that she is very proud of. The department holds a Rapid Rehousing Program which houses the homeless as well as an Eviction Prevention Program for those at risk of homelessness. They take a wrap around services approach while working with every individual that they add to the caseload. They discover what the person's barriers are to achieve prosperity and independence and tackle each goal till a participant graduates the program. "Seeing the real impact these programs make in the lives of our fellow community members is so rewarding. I look at it not as a hand out, but a leg up towards equality."

Celina came to Buffalo for her Bachelor’s degree at The University at Buffalo here she was an elective board memeber of The Latin America Student Association, and graduated suma cumladi as apart of TauSigma. At home, she’s the proud mother of an inquisitive and loving 12 year old daughter. Along side her supportive boyfriend and his 3 children. Celina is proud of her diverse heritage of being Jamaican, Nigerian, German, and Irish. Her many hobbies throughout the years have included preforming salsa dance routines, running events, on-air radio personality, bible study, podcast host on holstic alternatives, and has been casting and stage managing local fashion shows for over a decade benefiting local causes. Other hobbies inlude camping, fishing, hiking, concerts, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills every sunday! Billz Mafia! She has followed in her father's footsteps working in the housing field, dedicated to her crafts.

Celina has lived in many neighborhoods throughout her 16 years in Buffalo and feels a deep sence of community ever since becoming a Buffalonian. Celina brings knowledge, passion, laughter and kindness to the Harvest House family. We consider her a perfect fit for the Community Leader Highlight!
Please join us in spotlighting the Harvest House Buffalo Director of Housing, Celina and to support her triumphs in helping the community find housing!

From providing clothing, cribs and books to children, to improving access to health care for the uninsured and underserved, to helping adults get training and support to secure living wage jobs, Harvest House has served Buffalo in numerous ways since 1993.

“The mission of Harvest House is to help people in our community further themselves with the talents and gifts that they already have and share resources for transformational change to enhance individual and community wellness,” said Bridget Lutz, Chief Financial Officer of Harvest House.

The organization first opened its doors in South Buffalo, moving to its current location on Jefferson Avenue in 2003. Today, more than 27,000 individuals are served annually through Harvest House’s four programmatic branches: The New Hope Education Center, Good Neighbors Health Care, The Baby & Children’s Ministry and Housing.

“As we've grown, what we do for the community has grown, and so our board decided that it was time to secure our future by thinking about an endowment,” Bridget explained.

The choice to establish the endowment at the Community Foundation was an easy one. “We had heard about the Community Foundation for years because it’s a trusted partner in our community,” Bridget said, adding that learning more about the Community Foundation’s investment performance was another strong selling point.

“This partnership with the Community Foundation is going to give us long-term reachable goals with what resources we have now,” Bridget noted. “Our entire philosophy at Harvest House is based on partners working together to help the community, and the Community Foundation has really stepped into a place of partnership with us, helping us to build our roadmap toward future sustainability.”

Inga Wright has been giving her time to help the Baby & Children's Ministry at Harvest House for a full decade!
During this time she's put all the pennies she could find into a baby bottle to support the B&CM even more than she already has with ten years of her time!
With pennies going out of mint she rushed over to turn it in while we could still make use of them.
And yes they are just pennies but remember...

It's not how much you give, It's not what you give, it's that you give.

Our Story

Gary was born and raised in Western New York, Linda is from Pittsburgh, PA. They know they were destined to meet and be together. The fact that the fateful meeting occurred on a roller coaster proves God does indeed have a sense of humor. Harvest House was not a life long dream. Always faithful to God, Gary and Linda took their faith more seriously after attending a Cursillo weekend in 1990. It was at this retreat they were introduced to Jesus as a friend. Over the next few years Linda, knowing how uncomfortable Gary was becoming with the uneven distribution of wealth in the world, could sense they were in for a lifestyle change. She thought it would be to a smaller house! The seed was planted when Gary saw a picture of a church in a real estate listing book. A few days later the seed was cultivated at a John Michael Talbot concert where all night the messages of "Sell all you have, give to the poor and follow me," and "Peter do you love me? Feed my sheep." seemed to be directed specifically at them. Gary and Linda left the concert and drove by the church. After months of research, prayer and feeling God's loving hand guiding them, they sold their home in the suburbs and on April 12, 1993, purchased the derelict city church which is now Harvest House. The years have been challenging, enlightening, frustrating, and inspiring. It is only through God's grace that Harvest House has become the wonderful inviting "home" it is to so many.

If you ask Gary or Linda what the one thing they learned is, they would answer "to never say never." However, even after all the ways they witnessed God working in their life, they always proclaimed that there would never be a second Harvest House location. They say if you want to make God smile, tell him your plans.

On October 4, 2003, the 10th anniversary of Harvest House was celebrated by paying off the mortgage - 7 years ahead of schedule! Soon after this celebration, a second location, a former Mack Truck dealership and service center, and surrounding property, was donated to Harvest House. They named the building the Harvest House Ministry Center and envisioned it becoming a one-stop center to help the community. The site at 175 Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo currently serves the community with Good Neighbors Health Care, New Hope Education Center, and the Baby & Children's Ministry, and their vision is becoming a reality. By continuing to follow God's will, the Ministry Center is sure to continue to have programs that honor Him and help his people.
