We’re here to provide culturally rooted, inclusive, and empowering support to families on their birthing and breastfeeding journeys—centering Black, Brown, and LGBTQ+ communities. This week I had the honor and privilege of assisting a beautiful family as they welcomed their baby here earthside safely. With that being said, I was there to support the family and mom during his birth experience. It was a full circle moment, and it was truly beautiful.🥹

Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your birth experience. To watch that little peanut be born and see how beautiful she is, completing your family, was truly such a beautiful experience.

I want to extend another Coooooongratulations to Mom and Dad on their beautiful baby girl. Wishing you nothing but love, success, happiness, and joy as you begin this next chapter together as a family.

Black History Month Spotlight: Honoring Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler

In 1864, Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler made history as the first Black woman in the United States to earn a medical degree. At a time when both racism and sexism created enormous barriers, she dedicated her life to caring for women, infants, and underserved Black communities.

Dr. Crumpler focused much of her work on maternal and child health, providing care to newly freed Black families who otherwise had little to no access to medical support. She later authored A Book of Medical Discourses in 1883—one of the first medical publications written by a Black physician—sharing guidance on caring for mothers and babies.

Her work laid the foundation for what birth workers, doulas, and lactation professionals continue today: advocating for safe births, supporting breastfeeding families, and ensuring Black mothers and babies receive respectful, knowledgeable, and compassionate care.

At Birth and Breastfeeding Victories LLC, we honor pioneers like Dr. Crumpler whose courage and commitment continue to inspire our mission. Representation in birth work matters. Education matters. Support matters.

Before hospitals became the primary place for birth, Black “Granny Midwives” delivered the majority of babies in the Southern United States — for both Black and white families.

These women were:

♥️Birth attendants
♥️Protectors of maternal knowledge

They passed down generational wisdom rooted in African traditions, survival, and resistance.
