In partnership with The Buffalo Urban League, we were proud to host Dr. Pascal Mubenga, superintendent of Buffalo Public Schools, for an engaging fireside chat and Q&A at Seneca One. Our president Jessica Cox and Buffalo Urban League President and CEO Thomas Beauford joined in the discussion as Dr. Mubenga outlined his vision for Buffalo schools after his first 100 days. We were honored to partner with the Buffalo Sabres to host at last night’s Sabres game.

Together, we celebrated the invaluable contributions of Buffalo Public Schools’ counselors and engaged the community in an effort to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with mental health issues.

As part of the game, students and counseling staff attended pre-game events, including mental health discussions featuring Eric Kussin, Founder and CEO of SameHere Global Mental Health Movement, Sabres alumnus Clint Malarchuk, and participation and support from Mental Health Advocates of Western New York.

It's been a year of remarkable achievements, and our shared commitment to communities shone brightly with Holiday Helpers. Our Western New York team members generosity led to nearly 300 gifts for local children, seniors and families. We also had the privilege of awarding funds to four deserving non-profits - Bornhava, Friends of Night People, Special Spaces Buffalo and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Ben, a Highmark member, faced a lifelong need for a support program due to a congenital heart defect and chronic alignment issues. As a busy professional, husband, and new father, finding time for traditional in-person support was a constant struggle.

His solution came through a Highmark email: the Virtual Joint Health, Thrive by Sword program. He quickly found the virtual, at-home care to be a game-changer. The program allowed him to prioritize his health without disrupting his family schedule, enabling him to consistently work on his physical well-being.

For Ben, the Thrive by Sword program provided the crucial flexibility and expert guidance he needed to manage his health effectively, leading to less pain and improved overall well-being.
