Working in an Intensive Care Unit is full of challenges - physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These units are what they are because of their critical care teams, who are highly-skilled, easily adaptable, and above all, compassionate.

Madison Heath, an ICU RN here at Sisters, is on one of those teams. Madison was recently recognized by the family of one of her patients, who described her as deeply caring, understanding, and reassuring during their mother's passing. She is someone who makes a profound impact in the way she cares, and we couldn't be more thrilled to present her with a DAISY Award - an international honor for nurses who go above and beyond in patient care. Thank you, Madison, for all that you do!

Has someone at Sisters stood out to you in the way they provided care? Give them a shout out here:

Regular laboratory testing is vital for understanding your health. These tests provide crucial insights into your organ health, medication effects, and potential diseases. Annual blood tests are particularly important, as they enable early detection of health issues, allowing for timely intervention and peace of mind.

We ended our NICU Read-A-Thon with a very special visit from two very special people - Colleen and Amy from Hope Totes Buffalo. After navigating complex medical journeys with their own children, these two inspiring WNY moms started a non profit to help other moms facing similarly heavy experiences. Each tote, assembled entirely by volunteers, includes a warm blanket, slippers, toiletries, a medical binder, and more. Over the last year, Hope Totes has provided our hospital with dozens of these totes, and this week, Amy and Colleen were kind enough to deliver them in person to moms facing extended stays in our NICU.

We are deeply grateful for the compassion these two women have and how they choose to pay it forward in a profound way. 💙🫶

We’re in the home stretch of our NICU Read-A-Thon, and our babies had a very special Guest Reader today - local children’s book author and illustrator Erica Sirotich! Erica shared her incredible book, Mail Duck, and left each little one she read to with their very own autographed copy dedicated to them! 🐥📚

Thank you, Erica, for such a special visit!

We’re starting our day with a whole lot of HOPE thanks to our latest Read-A-Thon Guest Reader, Hope Rises founder Kate Glaser! 💛

Kate spent time sharing the magical world of Dr. Seuss with our NICU babies, and it was a full circle moment. Kate had all three of her babies at Sisters, and she shared with our nurses just how grateful she was for the care she received. Thank you, Kate, for coming back to Sisters and spreading a little hope to our bookworms and their families! 🫶

Just three days to go in our NICU Read-A-Thon, and today our babies had their very own story time with our hospital president, Meghan Aldrich!

Meg read “This Little Trailblazer - A Girl Power Primer” to empower our future leaders and readers.💪📚 And just like that, our bookworms are inching closer to the finish line!

As we begin Week 2 of our NICU Read-A-Thon, our littlest readers woke up to storytime with News 4 WIVB Buffalo Wake Up! anchor Scott Patterson - News 4 Buffalo!

Today’s book list included “The World Needs More Purple People” and “Doggies - A Counting and Barking Book.” Scott made sure our babies are not only learning words, but different barks too. ☺️🐶 Thank you, Scott, for starting your week by helping our bookworms grow!

If you’ve ever been to Alice, Ever After Books on Parkside, you know it feels like a warm hug. While we couldn’t bring our NICU babies to the bookstore for our Read-A-Thon, today we did the next best thing - welcomed the incredible woman behind Alice Ever After, Meg Howe, to be a Guest Reader on Day 4!

Meg and her team make reading magical for kids, and today was no different. Our NICU bookworms were lucky to have Meg introduce them to classics like Corduroy and On the Day You Were Born. We are so proud to have partnered with AEAB for this year’s Read-A-Thon wishlist, and we can’t wait to see these little ones enjoy their first storytime at the bookstore down the road.📚🫶
