Hey there! 👋 Yes, I’m still alive — I’ve just been swept into the wild dual-realm of summer parenting and running a very busy business (turns out being your own boss means your boss is kind of a jerk about time off). I’ve also dramatically reduced my screen time to avoid being sucked into the social media vortex of doom, outrage, and ads for things I mentioned once to a friend at dinner.

Also, remember when I started my own business to have more flexibility and be there for my kids? When school’s out, I go into full mom mode: part camp counselor, part snack dispenser, part reluctant referee.. and, of course, also partaking in that radical social experiment called ✨being present✨

So, if I’m quiet here, don’t panic — I’ve just been drafted into the chaotic jungle of summer parenting. I’ll emerge sunburnt, questionably sane, and mildly feral.

Stay safe, find joy, pay attention, fight for those without your privilege, and FDT 🫠

Birthing folks in the area, join us on the second Wednesday of each month for a Postpartum Support Circle! Free and open to the public, this circle is primarily focused on the first 6-8 months .🧑‍🍼🤱

⭕️ Why a “circle?” A circle is a gathering of members of a community characterized by thoughtful preparation, powerful questions, and an egalitarian structure. Everyone is invited to participate and all voices are considered equally important. Every participant will have a chance to speak to each topic or question without interruption.

⭕️ Circles are one of the oldest forms of group process. Indigenous and first peoples cultures from around the world used and continue to use circle processes to facilitate community conversations about important subjects. Circles facilitate deep listening, and create a sense of community for all involved.

The BDS Postpartum Support Circle is rooted firmly in the following ethical beliefs:

✨✨Excited to share that as of December 1, BDS will be part of the gorgeous building, located (just blocks away from our previous office!) at 2929 Main St. in Buffalo!✨✨

While supporting woman, q***r, and/or BIPOC owned businesses has been something I’ve made a conscious effort to do for quite some time, after this election, I felt driven by an even deeper desire to support my community and those who will continue to be directly targeted by the incoming circus.

As if the fates aligned, I found my way to Valvaere just a few days later - a building owned by a woman and filled only with established woman-owned businesses. 💁🏼‍♀️

I feel so fortunate and can’t wait to hold classes and host groups in our bigger, better, sun-soaked space! Stay tuned. 💜

Hey everyone. This week has really sucked, eh? Clearly not for all of us; but for the people I love and care about, and those who share my morals and values, it’s been a time of despair and heartbreak. This week, we showed our kids that abusers can grow up to be president, that electing a cruel and vile white man is preferable to most than electing an educated and fierce woman of color, and that money is more valuable than the lives of women and members of the LGBTQ+ community.

BDS has always stood for the rights and well-being of all birthing people, and always will. I’m going to say something that may rattle some of you, and it’s that if you are a birth worker, in any capacity, and you voted red in this election - you need to find a new occupation. You can not and should not profit from or be trusted by birthing people who need you to support them no matter what their pregnancy outcome may be, but vote for people who don’t give a damn if they die from an ectopic pregnancy. I said what I said.

Those of us who are feeling confused, saddened, and disheartened about the state of this county; lean on your communities. Take solace in knowing you are not alone. Surround yourself with others who are determined to resist and persist. As I’ve stated in the past: BDS doulas may not be the doulas for everyone, but we will always be doulas for anyone.

Anyway, here are some sweet, fresh baby feet to help you smile today.
