Dan Buettner, founder of the Blue Zones, said, "“When you take worldwide data on happiness, and you control for everything else, you find that people who live next to water are...happier than people who don't".
And it's not just happiness thats affected. In a CNBC article about the Blue Zones they mention a 2017 systematic review published in BMJ that found just spending time near coasts, lakes or rivers can “promote health and well-being and prevent disease.”
As we head into the Labor Day week-end, think about finding some blue spaces such as lakes, rivers, or a beach where you can swim, kayak, paddle board or just enjoy the water's beauty.
And if you are with friends or family, that social connection just might further boost your emotional wellbeing. Maybe these blue spaces plus social connections are just what is needed right now. Enjoy.
