Sugar is a VERY addictive substance and has been linked to cancers, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and other very serious illnesses.
You should strive for less than 10% of your daily calories from added sugars, which is about 12 teaspoons (50g) of sugar for a 2,000-calorie diet, but it is best to check the nutrition facts for individual foods to identify and limit added sugars in your diet. Foods with 5g or less of total sugars per 100g are considered low in sugar, while products with 5% or less of the daily requirement are a good choice.
Needless to say, also stay away from artificial sweeteners like saccharin, aspartame, acesulfame potassium (Ace-K), sucralose, neotame, advantame, and Splenda.
What can you use to sweeten your food/drink if necessary? Monk fruit, Stevia, honey, or maple syrup are all good options!
