Let’s talk prevention … Cervical cancer can be prevented through regular screenings and HPV vaccination. Here’s two ways to slow the occurrence of cervical cancer:

1) Get tested regularly: Regular screening with Pap and HPV tests can help find problems early. It’s fast, easy, and saves lives.

2) Get the HPV vaccine: The HPV vaccine prevents infection with the types of HPV that can cause cervical cancer. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend the HPV vaccination at ages 11 to 12, but vaccination can start as early as age 9. Starting early is best. From ages 15 to 26, a three-dose series is recommended.

On Tuesday, Community Health Center of Buffalo, Inc.’s Chief Operating Officer Alfred Hammonds joined community health center leaders from across Western New York to urge Governor Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers to invest in the care our patients depend on. Strong health centers mean healthier families, stable jobs, and stronger communities.

When people can’t get routine primary care, they often end up in the emergency room. Investing in prevention saves money and keeps people healthier in the long run. Community health centers don’t just care for patients – they also employ people from all over Western New York. Stable, ongoing funding helps keep quality healthcare accessible and communities strong.

We’re proud to stand together for that future.
