Fireworks can be a fun way to celebrate, but they also come with serious risks. Each year, thousands of people—many of them children—are injured due to fireworks. Keep your celebration safe and spark-free with these simple tips:

- Leave it to the pros. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a professional display.
- Keep water nearby. Have a bucket of water or a hose ready in case of fire or malfunction.
- Supervise children at all times. Never let children handle or light fireworks—even sparklers burn hot enough to cause serious burns.
- Only light fireworks one at a time, and back up to a safe distance quickly.
- Never relight a “dud.” Wait 20 minutes and soak it in water.
- Use fireworks outdoors only in a clear area away from homes, dry grass and flammable materials.
- Don’t point or throw fireworks at people, animals, vehicles or structures.

Injuries from fireworks often involve burns to the hands, face and eyes. If an injury does occur, seek medical attention right away. Always call 911 in an emergency.

Another great night of cooking!

Dr. Taylor Pedersen from Dallas County Family Medical Center and CMH dietitian Jake Pearson led the second “Cooking is the Cure” class of the year last night at Buffalo Middle School.

Families from across Dallas County came together to learn hands-on tips for preparing nutritious, budget-friendly meals at home. The room was filled with laughter, learning, and the delicious smell of home-cooked food!

We love seeing our community connect over good food and healthy habits.
