UB-HWI’s Skill Set Building Through Structural Biology summer program for high school students is in full swing—and the participants have been experiencing a variety of activities!
These talented young scientists are exploring diseases and their associated proteins, seeing cutting-edge structural biology instrumentation, and developing essential research and communication skills. From analyzing relevant scientific publications to team-based projects and fun group activities, they’re gaining both scientific knowledge and confidence.
We’re so proud to watch the next generation of researchers grow and thrive this summer!

One of the highlights of our final BioXFEL summer program: a behind-the-scenes tour of CHESS (Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source)!
With the synchrotron down for maintenance, our interns had the rare chance to walk inside the storage ring, explore the experimental hutches, and see new, like LEAP, under construction.
This hands-on experience brought their research training to life! Huge thanks to Joel Brock, Jeney Wierman, and the amazing CHESS team for making it possible!

This week, we welcomed students from the Eric Pitman Annual Summer Workshop in Computational Science to the University at Buffalo's Hauptman-Woodward Research Institute!

These bright minds are diving into bioinformatics, AI, and genome sequencing as part of a week-long exploration into the power of computational science. During their visit, they toured our Cryo-Electron Microscopy Center and the National Crystallization Center, gaining firsthand insight into how we visualize and analyze the building blocks of life.
