Thanks for joining us at Art + Advocacy this week! We had an incredible time exploring Valeria Cray's sculptures and process as we think about the process of developing homes and communities that meet every body's needs. It is always a joy to reclaim public spaces and public art for folks with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and seeing our (lowercase c) community's work in conversation with our broader Buffalo Community in this way is particularly exciting.

Many thanks to , , and Valerie Cray for sharing and creating spaces of connection.

Sharing some photos from our last cooking class that ends in a community meal, Everybody Eats! What an absolute joy to see folks take on slicing onions with confidence, peel potatoes for the first time together, roll with the punches, play with spices, and get real time feedback from neighbors on their delightful creations.

Our next Everybody Eats is April 13th, with class starting at 4p and our table opening for neighbors at 6p! We'd love to see you there!

We were honored to join long time collaborator on our team and self advocate on a trip to Albany this week to advocate with and for better solutions and transparency in home care. We are so proud to be able to support the work of advocates who arrived from all over the state, following the leadership and generosity of Renee with her resources, in sharing their stories with our representatives who don't often get the chance to hear from adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, care workers, and all those who rely on home care.

Every time we travel together, we also learn more about what good care can and should look like. We learn how to support each other on long car rides and loud packed rooms, how to create space and time for translation so no one is left out, how to storytell about closed doors and long waits to keep each other courageous in telling our stories, and so many other ways to let each other know we are seen and loved. Each moment reminds us, in the words of Arundhati Roy, another world is not only possible, she is on her way. On a quiet day, we can hear her breathing.

Renee adds: "We imagine her calling to us. A world with care is prioritized and embodied in society's values, actions, and the way we all show up together. Welcome communities come together, love and support every human being, with Care at the center of who we all are."

Another fantastic dinner last night building confidence in the kitchen and friendships around the table!

Every second Monday and fourth Friday we invite folks looking to build tangible skills and get confidence with recipes adaptable to many palates to our cooking class.

AND

We invite neighbors, family and friends to come at dinner time to celebrate what our chefs have created for a pay-what-you-can community dinner.

This is a way we practice showing up for each other, and continually remind each other that showing up is a gift! Here, we know care is a two-way street, as elaborate as a home cooked meal, and as simple as a wide smile that asks "YOU made this??"

We'd love to see you at Everybody Eats- there's always more room at the table.

We had such a blast last Friday cooking up a pot of jumbalaya that blew our socks off!

Twice a month we get together for Everybody Eats, and practice skills that are the heartbeat of community- cooking. We practice dangerous things safely with our talented sous-chef, plain language recipes participants take home, and a portion meal-prepped for an easy lunch or dinner later in the week. We get to celebrate our accomplishments with friends, family, and neighbors who join us for a pay-what-you-can dinner after class, and who sometimes have ideas to spice it up at home.

Our March Everybody Eats events will be on:
March 9th, class from 4-6, dinner at 6p
March 27th, class from 3-5, dinner at 5p

Registration is open now, and we're what's looking for more friends and volunteers to help us in the kitchen!

When will we see you?

We had an incredible time at the Burchfield Penney last Thursday creating wallpaper designs inspired by Burchfield's, and thinking about the many changes we make to our homes. We were delighted to end by going upstairs to a book signing by Buffalo author Reagan Fast, who shared about her experiences and her book about meeting kind people who set us as we are.

We hope to see so many of you tomorrow at conTEXT-and don't forget to sign up if you're planning on making jumbalaya with us at Everybody Eats this Friday!

Still enjoying chili leftovers from Everybody Eats this Monday! We had a fabulous time building confidence in the kitchen by following a simple recipe, practicing dangerous things safely, and playing with flavors. We settled down for UNO while all the flavors melded together, reminding us the best things take time.

Huge thanks to and for sending along pictures, updates, and your incredible work! We've been thinking of you often and were so excited to put faces to names, and names to poetry!

It's not too late to join us for our cooking class next Friday! We'll be meal-prepping jumbalaya for busy nights, and of course celebrating our work over dinner with friends and family- pay what you can to join us at 5pm for dinner, or sign up for class at forms.gle/bAQBLVq4nWpErQi97

We had such a fantastic time last night playing games and sharing a meal together for our community night. We talked buses, UNO house rules and strategy, and the best reading technique for a slice of 'za. These moments matter, where we get to be creative and present and silly together. Where those of us who are often left out of events get to plan them for ourselves.

Next month we'll be planning a garden bed together for when the spring comes, and learning what tools we have now to get us and our neighbors through the winter- will you join us?
