This little girl has always been royalty whenever she comes to assist at our office- but now she has an official title!
Meet Katrina Herrington, the 2024 Pulaski Princess!
Katrina is six years old and loves spending time with her two beloved cats, attending swimming classes, and dancing! One of her favorite activities is making “potions” in buckets and creating AI art for her friends.
Katrina’s Polish heritage is a significant part of her life. She loves attending Polish festivals and parades, making Polish food and cookies during the holiday season, and dancing polka with her pals!
A fun fact about Katrina is that at the age of 6, she taught a class on Artificial Intelligence to adult data science students at Buffalo State College!
Katrina’s vibrant personality and diverse interests make her a wonderful choice as the 2024 Pulaski Princess!

Quick Public Health Announcement:
I just remembered to do mine, so I'm reminding y'all to do yours. For those who do their own car maintenance, be sure to inspect/replace your engine air filter and cabin air filters.
I'm notorious for ignoring them,(a quick glance, shake and move on) since it's not really too much of an issue... but... this year? They've put in some work. Definitely check them out and get new ones in there. The smoke is expected to last all summer.

It can happen naturally, on its own. Disc herniations aren’t a life sentence!
Mechanisms of resorption in lumbar disc herniation
👇👇👇
👉 Clinically, the phenomenon of spontaneous shrinkage or disappearance of a herniated lumbar IVD without surgical intervention is called reabsorption.
2- The tension on the posterior longitudinal ligament causes the herniated disc fragment to be retracted back into the intervertebral disc space. This can be a mechanism when the annulus fibrosus (AF) is not damaged, but not with extruded and migrated fragments. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24316264/ https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/3875236/
3. The third theory, the most well studied and with the best clinical evidence, is gradual resorption of the disc material by enzymatic degradation and phagocytosis induced by an inflammatory response and neovascularisation: s. figure
📍When protruding IVD tissue squeezes out of the epidural space, it disrupts immune privilege, triggering an autoimmune response, then lymphocytes activate macrophages.
📍Related factors secreted by IVD cells and macrophages further drive the recruitment of macrophages to the intervertebral disc in paracrine and autocrine forms. Macrophages undergo differentiation from M1 to M2 types.
📍M1-type macrophages secrete pro-inflammatory factors to initiate angiogenesis, promote the expression of matrix metalloenzymes and apoptosis of herniated IVD nucleus pulposus cells.
📍M2-type macrophages secrete anti-inflammatory factors to relieve pain response, promote new blood vessel formation, and are responsible for tissue remodeling and repair, and absorb the protruding debris to reduce the total volume of the intervertebral disc, and reduce the mechanical compression of the nerve.
📍Throughout the process, infiltration and activation of macrophages mediate inflammatory responses, matrix metalloenzyme activation, and neovascularization.
Happy Holidays from the Herrington Family! My family and I are grateful year-round to have you in our life!
I'll be back in the office on Tuesday 12/28 & Thursday 12/30 from 4-8pm! Call or text me to reserve a time to recover from cleaning, cooking, wrapping or opening "frustration free" 🧐toys, and playing on the floor with your littles!
"The take home point here is that even 15 minutes a day of walking, without stopping, provides benefit with regards to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Research has associated 15 minutes of activity with a 22 percent lower risk of death (mortality), and walking with a 43 percent reduced risk in stroke and reduction the risk factors of heart attack (morbidity), regardless of how fast your heart is beating."

I said last month that I'd be posting more. Well... I guess once a month is more than none, right?
Something I get asked quite often is, is milk good? Is it healthy, is it unnecessary? Both yes. As long as you're one of the lucky ones who can digest it, milk is fine. If you don't want to drink it, there's plenty of better substitutes for the nutrition it can provide (as an adult). The video does a better job explaining, and is much more entertaining.
I've been meaning to post this for quite a while. I'm looking for good quality science videos for my daughter to watch and hopefully absorb something from (she's only 3.5 right now, she's not going to retain a lot) I found "Kurzgesagt" (German for "In a Nutshell" )
I cannot say it enough, this channel is amazing at what it does; explaining complex thoughts/topics in concise ways.
I'll likely be sharing more of their stuff as time goes on, as I can't state the topic better, nor make a more compelling video. So enjoy, and stay tuned.
To preorder IMMUNE click here: https://kgs.link/ImmuneBook – Its available in English and German and on amazon it should be available in pretty much all coun...
