Take a look at our friend Dylan doing an awesome job during his occupational therapy session with Mrs. Pam! Dylan worked on cutting shapes with scissors, tying shoes, and life skills making mac & cheese and cleaning up when he was done. Mrs. Pam notes that "Dylan is a hard worker during therapy and has made great progress over the years." We are all so proud of you! Thank you, Dylan, Mrs. Pam, and Dylan's parents for putting in tons of effort towards success! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘πŸ»

Halloween is coming up - what does that mean for kiddos who struggle with sensory overload? Take a look at the linked article for a few tips to get prepared with your child so that the holiday is enjoyable if you celebrate it. Also, remember that some kiddos who struggle with costumes might still enjoy trick-or-treating! If a child isn't wearing a costume but still knocks on your door for candy, please be kind and considerate! Halloween should be inclusive for everyone who celebrates πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

What are SOCIAL SKILLS? 🧐
Social skills are the skills we use everyday to interact and communicate with others. They include verbal and non-verbal communication, such as speech, gesture, facial expression and body language. We communicate with each other in a variety of contexts, and we do it ALL THE TIME! Social skills can be challenging, especially for children with special needs. They are something we work on in therapy at HHPT with many of our kiddos! Practicing these skills at home every day can be helpful to ensure that these skills are learned effectively. Not to mention - it is so easy to incorporate teaching these skills into every day life! You can model them for your child, create social stories, or encourage their use then a moment arises that require them. We encourage you to work on these skills with your children whenever you get the chance!

With just a few simple ingredients, it is a fun and easy way to work on some skills your therapist might already be teaching during therapy. β„οΈπŸ«β˜•οΈ
