Give your kids the gift of your own emotional regulation. 💕

“Doing better than the last generation” is a natural human desire. Many people strive to give their children what they didn’t receive. And almost always this is focused around money/the material.

If there’s one thing I hope to bring awareness around it’s that the greatest gift a child can ever receive is a parent who can emotionally regulate. A parent who can emotionally regulate is patient, open for connection, and maybe most impotently allows the child to fail (that’s where we learn the most.) They also have the humility to apologize and own it in the moments they’re flawed humans.

Our parent’s reactions and coping mechanisms are a reflection of their ability to regulate. And shape their child’s future beyond what’s currently known.

Countless adults are stuck. Like myself, they didn’t get the opportunity to witness parents who could emotionally regulate. So instead they: avoid, numb, push people away, and live in spirals of self doubt. They settle and remove themselves from new opportunities because they don’t trust themselves to be able to cope with whatever comes their way.

Children who are modeled emotional regulation become resilient adults. They can handle disappointment. They can rebound from rejection. They can set clear boundaries. They have a healthy understanding of what behaviors are unacceptable in relationships— and they remove themselves from those situations.

It quite literally will change the path they take in life.

We will change our world when our goal becomes giving children the emotional tools, not just the material

Waiting for someone to treat you right is a trauma response. Part of the healing process is making a commitment to yourself to choose you over and over and over again over the needs of someone else. When someone shows you by their actions who they are, believe them the first time and never look back. 💕

Start a daily practice of noticing and writing down what you’re grateful for and reap the many researched benefits. It’s an easy, not-too-time-consuming way to boost your overall wellness.

Creating a gratitude list can have numerous positive effects on your mental, emotional, and even physical well-being. Here's how expressing gratitude through writing can benefit your health:

Stress Reduction:
Gratitude has been linked to lower stress levels. Writing down what you're grateful for helps shift your focus from stressors to positive aspects of your life, promoting a calmer and more relaxed state of mind.

Improved Mental Health:
Regularly practicing gratitude is associated with improved mental health outcomes. It can contribute to a more positive outlook, reduced symptoms of depression, and increased overall psychological well-being.

Enhanced Mood:
Expressing gratitude has a direct impact on mood. When you focus on the positive aspects of your life, it triggers the release of neurotransmitters like dopamine and serotonin, which are associated with feelings of happiness and contentment.

Better Sleep Quality:
Gratitude has been linked to improved sleep quality. By reflecting on positive aspects of your day before bedtime, you can create a more positive mindset, reducing anxious thoughts that may interfere with sleep.

Increased Resilience:
Writing about what you're grateful for can enhance your ability to cope with challenges. It fosters a mindset of resilience, helping you see setbacks as temporary and providing a more optimistic perspective on difficult situations.

Positive Impact on Physical Health:
Gratitude practices have been associated with various physical health benefits, including lower blood pressure, improved immune function, and better cardiovascular health. Positive emotions associated with gratitude may contribute to these outcomes.

Enhanced Self-Esteem:
Regularly acknowledging and appreciating positive aspects of your life can contribute to a healthier self-image. This, in turn, boosts self-esteem and confidence.

Increased Emotional Intelligence:
Gratitude fosters emotional intelligence by encouraging you to recognize and understand your own emotions. It can also enhance your ability to empathize with others and navigate social relationships effectively.

Social Connection:
Expressing gratitude often involves acknowledging the positive contributions of others. This can strengthen social bonds, fostering a sense of connection and support within your relationships.

Greater Satisfaction in Life:
Gratitude is closely tied to life satisfaction. Taking the time to appreciate what you have can lead to a greater sense of fulfillment and contentment with your life.

Optimism and Positivity:
Gratitude practices cultivate an optimistic and positive mindset. This optimistic outlook can influence your overall approach to life, making challenges seem more manageable and opportunities more apparent.

Mindfulness and Present Moment Awareness:
Writing a gratitude list encourages mindfulness by drawing your attention to the present moment. It prompts you to reflect on positive experiences and appreciate them fully.

Incorporating gratitude into your routine, such as through writing a list, is a simple yet powerful strategy for enhancing your overall health and well-being. Regularly taking stock of the positive aspects of your life can lead to a more resilient, optimistic, and emotionally balanced mindset.

Staying in a loveless, dead, or toxic marriage for the kids is not providing your kids the benefits you think it is. Sometimes divorce is absolutely the best thing for the kids. There are many positive life lessons about romantic relationships, friendship, respect for self and others, authenticity, honesty, etc that can come from divorced parents.
