Nervousness and anxiety in horses can look different in every horse but it often stems from stress, overstimulation, travel, training pressure, changes in routine, or simply a naturally sensitive personality.🐴

Just like people some horses are naturally more sensitive and require extra support to help them stay balanced mentally and physically. Picky eater in the barn? We’ve got you. 👀

Here are a few easy ways to help your horse adjust to their Silver Lining Herbs supplements:

💧 Add a little water. Moistening the feed can help blend herbal scents and flavors more smoothly into their meal.

🌱 Start small. Begin with a smaller serving and gradually work up to the full amount over several days.

🍎 Mix with a favorite feed. Pairing herbs with something they already enjoy can help make mealtime much more appealing.

🥣 Try top dressing. Some horses prefer their supplements sprinkled on top instead of fully mixed in. It never hurts to test both!

⏳ Stay patient & consistent Some horses need a little time to adjust to new flavors and textures. Give them a few days and stay consistent, it’s worth it!

Is your horse experiencing:
• A long or curly coat that does not shed out normally
• Increased drinking and urination
• Muscle loss or a pot bellied appearance
• Recurrent laminitis
• Lethargy or decreased performance

This could be a sign of PPID, better known as Cushing’s. PPID, or Cushings, is a progressive endocrine disorder that affects the pituitary gland in horses. As horses age, changes in the brain can cause the pituitary to become overactive, leading to an overproduction of certain hormones. This hormonal imbalance impacts metabolism, immune function, and the body’s ability to regulate itself properly.🐴

Why it matters? PPID is more than just a “hair coat issue.” Left unmanaged it can increase your horse’s risk for serious conditions like laminitis, infections, and muscle wasting. Early recognition and proper support can make a huge difference in your horse’s comfort, longevity, and overall quality of life. Many horses with PPID can continue to perform and live happy, active lives when their condition is properly managed through nutrition, routine care, and targeted support.
