Last night as our Summer Solstice Medicine Wheel ceremony was just getting started, a vivid Cloud Rainbow appeared in the sky above us. We all agreed that some photos were in order before we proceeded with the ceremony. Here's one of them. The yellow blotch below the rainbow is an internal reflection in the camera lens. The ceremony was entirely A-MAY-ZING. (Photo by Brad Silberberg.)

The Mesa and drums made by Brad and Kate Silberberg made it into this morning's Post-Gazette newspaper. Brad held a lunchtime drum circle at University of Pittsburgh's William Pitt Union that moved outside to take advantage of the warm sunny weather, allowing passing students to drum for a few moments between classes. Here's a screen shot of the photo.

Coming Sept 22: Fall Equinox Medicine Wheel Ceremony. (Kids Welcome) Thursday, preparations and ceremonial smudging starting 6:30pm, ceremony starting 7pm MT (“Mesa Time”), pot luck dinner afterwards inside The Mesa, approx 8pm.

This is the first day of fall (The equinox occurs at 10:21am Eastern time on 9/22.) and one of nearly equal sunlight and darkness. It’s the “crest of the hill” on Nature’s slowdown from the fast-paced growth of summer to the cold slumber of winter; one of the two yearly balance points between Yang and Yin. With the Hummingbirds and Monarch butterflies preparing to migrate to warmer climes, it’s a time to harvest what we have sown in our lives earlier in the year, and prepare for the long cold nights of winter.

Taking time to honor these cyclical changes in solemn ceremony can be a way for us to better attune ourselves to and take advantage of the shifting energies of the Flow of Creation. This year the equinox comes right on the heels of a very powerful full moon in Pisces that will be accompanied by a full lunar eclipse. That cosmic doorway will still be ramping down as the equinox portal begins to open, making for a rare opportunity to step through one after the other in short order to a more spiritual way of being.

Join others in a Native American based ceremony in the Mesa Medicine Wheel to connect with the forces of Nature, greet the coming of fall, express gratitude, make an offering to the spirit of Mother Earth, and ask for health and help as winter beckons. Please bring a covered dish to share for a pot luck dinner inside The Mesa after the ceremony. With Brad Silberberg. Your donations are appreciated and help us continue our work at The Mesa. The Mesa Gift Shop will be open before the ceremony from 4pm to 6:30, and after dinner. Please dress appropriately for outside. Seating can be provided for those who cannot stand for 45 minutes or so. Please RSVP only if you are planning to attend, 724-947-3097 or brad@mesacreativearts.com.

July 13: Native American Frame Drumming Circle at Kaleidoscope II, Washington, PA. Wednesday, 6-8pm.
In Native American culture, the sound of the drum is considered the heartbeat of Mother Earth. In that tradition, drumming is used to raise energy for dance, ceremony, or war, heal imbalance, and connect to the Spirit World. Drumming brings the people together, lifts our spirits, and carries our prayers to the Great Mystery on their vibration. Modern studies have also shown that drumming together can help us release stress, brighten moods, build a sense of belonging, increase self-confidence, and make people laugh. Join us for an evening of sacred drumming, call and response rhythms, a little singing, and some fun. With Brad Silberberg. Contribution: $40. Bring your own frame drum or borrow one from Brad’s collection. Location: 7 E. Walnut St. Washington, PA 15301. Please make your reservation by calling the Kaleidoscope II store, 724-470-9136.

Jun 20: Summer Solstice Medicine Wheel Ceremony. Monday, preparations and ceremonial smudging starting 6:30pm, ceremony starting about 7pm MT (“Mesa Time”), pot luck dinner afterwards inside The Mesa, approx 8pm.

This date combines the longest day and shortest night of the year. While it heralds the long, hot, sunny days of summer, from this day forward until the winter solstice the daylight hours will gradually diminish again to their minimum. These natural events continue no matter what we do or say, and carry on no matter what else may be happening in our busy lives. If we are paying attention they can be reassuring reminders for us of the constancy of the natural cycles that form the foundation of our lives on earth. Taking time out to celebrate these seasonal changes together helps us remember our roots as human beings, grounds us, and keeps us connected to what really matters.

The solstice (Actual time: 6:34pm EDT) is also a time of opportunity for a shift in your life as this powerful celestial alignment coupled with a full moon (Also in Sagittarius as it was in May) open doorways for you at the midpoint of 2016. Engaging in ceremony reconnects us to Creation and changes us. By taking part in ceremony, we give ourselves a chance to reset and to replant within ourselves seeds of Light. These seeds will sprout in the days and months to follow. If we nurture them gently our outcomes and life direction will change for the better. To that end you are invited to take part in a Native American based ceremony under the sky in the Mesa Medicine Wheel to connect with the natural world and helping spirits, greet the coming of Summer, express gratitude and appreciation, and ask for help.

Please bring a covered dish to share for a pot luck dinner inside The Mesa after the ceremony. (Approx 8pm.) With Brad Silberberg. Your donations are appreciated and help us continue our work at The Mesa. The Mesa Gift Shop will be open before the ceremony from 4-6:30pm and after dinner. Please dress appropriately for standing outside during the ceremony. Please RSVP only if you’re coming, 724-947-3097 or email brad@mesacreativearts.com .

June 15: Energy Sensing Basics. Wednesday, 6-8pm. What’s all this stuff people say about feeling “energy” from crystals, people, Angels, etc? Can anyone do that, or am I missing something? You’ve probably already had experiences with using your energy “radar” but just weren’t aware of it as such. Every one of us is sensitive to the subtle emanations of all living and non-living things. Once you open your mind to it, know how to recognize the sensations, and gain a little guided experience, you’ll be able to confidently use this higher sense to help yourself and others in many ways. In this experiential workshop, you’ll learn tried and true methods to connect with your ability to sense, understand, and correlate the energy of rocks and crystals, people’s bodies and emotions, plants, and more. Participants are welcome to bring their favorite rocks, crystals, or other energy objects. With Brad Silberberg. Contribution: $40. Location: 7 E. Walnut St. Washington, PA 15301. Please make your reservation by calling the Kaleidoscope II store, 724-470-9136.

March 20: Spring Equinox Medicine Wheel Ceremony. (Children welcome!) Sunday, preparations and ceremonial smudging starting 4:30pm, ceremony starting 5pm MT (“Mesa Time”), pot luck dinner afterwards inside The Mesa, approx 6pm..

The spring equinox (3/20/16 at 12:30am Eastern Daylight Time in Western PA) is one of two times of the year when we experience nearly equal amounts of daylight and darkness and are presented the lessons of polarity. It also marks the end of the yearly zodiac cycle and the beginning of the next as watery Pisces gives way to fiery Aries. The emerging spring is the season of New Beginnings and the planting of seeds. It is a time to decide what kind of “seeds” you wish to see sprout in your life, and what attitudes, intentions, and energies to sow in the world around you.

As is the case with all equinoxes and solstices, the very nature of this celestial and earthly alignment focuses transformational energies on us, building a couple of days before and lasting a couple of days after the maximum. This equinox comes right on the heels of a full solar eclipse on 3/8/16, (Not visible in our part of the world.) the effects of which we may still be feeling as the equinox arrives. This will be a powerful opportunity to reflect on the dualities within ourselves and the world around us and use these “booster energies” to jump to a higher level of living consciously.

We’ve been blessed with a mild winter and early spring. Take advantage of this early start by joining with others in the Mesa Medicine Wheel for this equinox ceremony to acknowledge and honor the cycles of Nature, connect with Spirit, give thanks, and ask for help. We’ll also send healing to Mother Earth as she rubs her eyes and awakens from her winter slumber, and energetically align with the arrival of spring.

Please bring a covered dish to share for a pot luck dinner inside The Mesa after the ceremony. (Approx 6pm.) With Brad Silberberg. Your donations are appreciated and help us continue our work at The Mesa. The Mesa Gift Shop will be open before the ceremony from 2-4:30pm, and after dinner. Please dress appropriately for outside as we will be standing out there for 45-60 minutes, weather permitting. Please RSVP only if you’re coming, 724-947-3097 or email brad@mesacreativearts.com .

December 22: Winter Solstice Medicine Wheel Ceremony. Tuesday, preparations and ceremonial smudging starting 6:30pm, ceremony starting 7pm MT (“Mesa Time”), pot luck dinner afterwards inside The Mesa, approx 8pm.

Every month, the moon goes through a cycle from waxing to waning. Twelve times a year this cycle starts afresh with a “new” moon, and Grandmother Moon’s energetic doorway for new beginnings in our lives. For the sun, the cycle takes a whole year with the minimum daylight hours of winter solstice (Monday, 12/21 at 11:49pm) being the equivalent of a “new sun”, Father Sun providing his new beginnings opportunity only once every twelve months. This shortest day of the year and longest night marks the “Return of the Sun” as the days begin to grow longer again. It’s an important portal in time for change in your life as powerful energies open the way for us all.

Join us in a Native American based ceremony in the Mesa Medicine Wheel to connect with the forces of Nature, greet the coming of winter, express gratitude and appreciation, open to change, and ask for help. Please bring a covered dish to share for a pot luck dinner inside The Mesa after the ceremony. The Mesa gift shop will also be open from 5-6:30 before the ceremony and after dinner. With Brad Silberberg. Your monetary donation helps support our healing work at The Mesa. PLEASE DRESS VERY WARMLY (No-- We mean really warmly!) as we will be standing still outside for the ceremony. Please RSVP only if you’re coming, 724-947-3097, or email (brad@mesacreativearts.com).

I'm teaching this class Thursday if anyone is interested-- Brad

Oct 8: Crystal Energy at Carnegie Reiki. Thursday, 6:30-9:00 pm.
Native Americans say that rocks are the oldest beings on this Earth and have seen all of history. Each one contains its own particular energy and consciousness that we can interact with directly. Crystal and mineral specimens can help us heal specific issues, teach us about energy and consciousness, and improve the energy environment of our homes. Learn how to awaken and use the energy and wisdom of your rocks and crystals to help yourself and others. We’ll discuss mineral identification, healing and manifesting uses, clearing of crystals, and more. We always have a great time in this class and come up with new ways to work with stones. All Students will go home with some crystals. Bring your favorite stones and we’ll help you work with them. With Brad Silberberg. Contribution: $50. Please RSVP by October 4, 2015 using our contact tab, www.carnegiereiki.com or call Carrie Pancake, 304-692-4112.
