In response to last night’s earthquake in Japan, I imagine many of you may be feeling anxiety or fear, may not be sleeping well, and that many people who were affected are going through something incredibly difficult in the cold. I also know that among my followers, there are many who live in countries that have experienced major earthquakes and disasters, wars, or political conflict, and who are still living with ongoing hardship and emotional impact.
Above all, please prioritize your safety and the safety of your loved ones. After events like this, it is very common for a wide range of reactions to show up in both mind and body. Difficulty sleeping, a racing heart, uncontrollable tears, feeling foggy or numb, or ongoing tension and anxiety, anger are all natural responses.
To help settle your mind and body even a little, please try any of the following, as you are able:
☘️Take slow, deep breaths.
☘️Do grounding practices to bring your attention back to the present moment.
☘️Limit how much information you take in, and only follow what is necessary.
☘️Move through your day at a gentler pace than usual.
☘️Keep your body warm, drink water, eat when you can, and rest whenever possible.
☘️Be as kind and gentle with yourself as you can.
You do not need to force yourself to feel okay. Even if fear or anxiety remains, simply helping yourself feel a bit calmer, receiving support, and getting through the present moment is more than enough.
I am holding hope that your minds and bodies will be protected as much as possible, and that moments of safety and relief will return.
Please take care of yourselves, and keep your safety as your top priority.
