Dr. Marci Bowers

Dr. Marci Bowers Dr. Marci Bowers, M.D. is viewed as a pioneer in the field of gender reassignment surgery and the fi That said, donor site scars were not ideal.

Dr. Bowers began working with the trans community in the mid-1990’s, prior to her transition. At the time, she was a well-regarded Ob/Gyn surgeon working at the Polyclinic in Seattle. Following her transition, her draw with the guys was a natural. Many sought her for hysterectomies and for Gyn care that was Trans sensitive. When Dr. Bowers began performing SRS/GRS, Dr. Bowers arrived in Trinidad too late, unfortunately, to learn Phalloplasty from the great Dr. Biber. Dr. BIber had among the largest series and many of the best examples of phalloplasty. Dr. Bowers sought techniques that would utilize the locally grown, organic aspects of pe**le growth on testosterone and looked towards Metoidioplasty. No one was willing or able to teach these techniques to Dr. Bowers at the time so she invented them. Based upon knowledge gleaned from her 17 years as a gyn doc, she fashioned a p***s from the enlarged cl****is, freeing it from the l***al attachments and creating a decent looking p***s. Many refinements later, the Simple Metoidioplasty was born. For the Ring Metoidioplasty (with its urinary hookup), Dr. Bowers first met Dr. Ako Takamatsu while speaking at WPATH in Chicago in 2007. Dr. Takamatsu, a Japanese Plastic Surgeon, had developed a Meta technique that included a urinary hookup by mobilizing flaps from the inner l***a and the anterior va**na, to create a functional urethra within the meta, allowing men the chance to stand while urinating. Most current Phalloplasty techniques no longer include a urinary hookup, seemingly an antithetical concept to those seeking a p***s. So the concept of a functional, personally sensate phallus grown locally, was appealing to Dr. Bowers. Dr. Takamatsu graciously flew to Trinidad, Colorado in the July 2008. On that visit, Dr. Bowers then performed the first US Ring Meta. Dr. Christine McGinn was able to assist in the surgery and the rest, so to speak, is history. Administrative Mailing address:

A message from our exiting Practice Manager, Robin:

After 15 years of serving the transgender community, and after much soul searching, I am being called into a new vocation and so am leaving my role as Practice Manager. Throughout the years, I have been honored to bear witness to the struggles and triumphs of thousands of individuals courageously walking a path toward their true selves. Both our transgender patients and the cis women who come for restorative surgery following FGM, must often defy culture, lose family, friends, and jobs, and always show incredible strength and fortitude as they claim their identities, bodies and selves.
What a gift, to be nearby to that courage and tenacity and authenticity. I have gained so much.

Our patients are in good hands with our wonderful new Practice Manager, Monica, and with Beth-Elle, our fantastic new Patient Care Coordinator. Janet and Betty, (the unsung heroes of the transgender insurance world!) remain in the Billing Office.

It is with deep appreciation to Marci, to my colleagues, and to our amazing patients, that I say my goodbyes. I am forever grateful.

SEEKING NEW TEAM MEMBERS!

Our team is changing and we are restructuring! While medical management/clinical experience is ideal, we are first and foremost looking for passionate, caring people to join us in our mission to serve the transgender community. If you are detail-oriented, self-directed, driven, dedicated, and willing to learn, you’ll fit right in.

After several wonderful years our beloved Clinic Manager is moving on to attend medical school. We are so happy for her, and we’re looking to find someone to fill her rather large shoes. We are seeking someone who has a supportive management style, team-oriented approach, along with high levels of efficiency and dedication. Please review the job description for Medical Practice Manager and send in your cover letter and resume to robin@marcibowers.com if you think you’re our next team leader.

We are also filling the position of Front Office/Patient Care Coordinator. This vital position in our office works closely with the Practice Manager, Dr. Bowers, and our Billing Team, and also directly with patients. Someone with a calm, compassionate demeanor, along with the ability to handle high volume calls, emails, and clinic days, will be the right person for this role. Please submit your cover letter and resume to robin@marcibowers.com after reading through the details of the job description.

Both positions will need to take on both administrative and clinical tasks, assisting with minor procedures and being responsible for routine post-operative care.
