Even if you never choose to have kids, birth is still part of your story.

Birth matters.

Every one of us came into the world. Every one of us has been born.

Do you know the person who birthed you? If you do, have you ever asked them the story of how you were born?
Was it peaceful?
Was it traumatic?
What is your birth story?
What impact does our own birth have on our existence? Does it impact our bodies in anyway?

I think it does…

Newborn photography doesn’t have to be complicated.
It can be as easy as sitting at home holding your baby (or babies!) while I come and capture some of the memories 📸

I hardly remember my early parenthood days. It was a blur of lack of sleep, diaper changes, and non-stop feeding. I often wish I could go back and bottle up the feelings and moments that feel so distant now…

Parenthood is such a wild and wonderful journey and I’m here to support and document your story 💛

Springtime babies meant lilacs as a photo backdrop! 🪻

It’s interesting we don’t talk much about how the season your baby is born in will somewhat affect how you spend your early months together…

I had 2 fall babies and 1 spring baby and I honestly loved my postpartum season the most for my baby born in November. We spent that first winter curled up together in the house doing crafts and baking with the big kids. It was cozy and relaxing for me as a new mom of three. I have such fond memories of my postpattum winter ❄️

My middle baby was born in May. I remember hiking with her in a baby carrier when she was less than 2 months old…the weather was beautiful and I refused to be stuck inside because of a new baby. But I really struggled with postpartum anxiety during that summer and felt it hard to slow down and relax when the sun was shining and the heat was out ☀️

Sometimes you can plan conception and your baby’s birth season, and often you can’t.

When were your babies born and what were the perks or challenges with their birth season?? ❄️🌼☀️🍁

They really only stay so tiny for such a short amount of time…

The first year of life is filled with SO much change. Babies go from being fully reliant and dependent on others to sitting and crawling and learning to walk. Before you know it your tiny baby will be running around and yelling “No!” when you ask them to please not stand on the table 😂

Don’t forget to slow down and remember the little moments. Because life goes on and one day you will look back and want to remember how small they once were.

That first latch ✨
Did you know your birth experience can have an impact on breastfeeding?

Mechanical interventions such as forceps, vacuums, and suction devices can cause injuries that affect a baby’s physiological ability to suck/swallow/breathe. When this natural coordination is impaired, babies can have a really hard time with breastfeeding.

Pharmaceutical interventions such as Pitocin, epidurals, anesthesia, or opioids can affect a babies natural sucking reflexes and can affect a birthing person’s natural release of oxytocin postpartum. This can negatively affect milk let down and initial breastfeeding.

Any interventions that delay birther-infant contact can negatively affect breastfeeding. Immediate skin-to-skin helps stabilize the newborn’s temperature, respirations, and heartbeat. It also stimulates maternal oxytocin productions which is essential for milk let down.

Your birth experience should be one that feels comfortable and safe for you. But don’t forget to ask about the risks and benefits of the different interventions offered to you! If your hospital tells you a labor induction or epidural is totally safe and doesn’t have risks, that is a huge red flag 🚩

Do you remember the first time you held your baby in your arms? Do you remember what they looked like or what their warm slippery body felt like in your hands? Did they have vernix on them? Were they born with any hair? Do you remember that emotional moment when you met for the first time?

Birth photography helps you remember all of those sweet details that are so easy to forget 💛

You will watch your baby grow and time will pass and the little details will fade from your memory to make room for the bigger moments like first steps and first words. Birth is a small moment - but it is the moment your life changed forever. Hiring a birth photographer means you’ll never forget that moment.

The tiny nose will soon grow.
The little fingers will soon start to grasp toys.
The sweet face will soon start to smile and giggle.

Newborn photos are a chance to remember all of the tiny details how they were. Because one day you will look at your baby and realize they aren’t a newborn anymore…
