Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated by Congress as a national day of service – a “day on, not a day off.” Participation in service activities has grown yearly as more Americans are encouraged to provide meaningful change in their communities. Service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, bridges barriers, creates solutions and moves us closer to Dr. King’s vision of an equitable society. It breaks down barriers by bringing people from different backgrounds together and benefits those who choose to serve.

Service to others is our North star at VHEI. We look forward to further serving our beautiful community this year.

Although we live in a beautiful state with plenty of winter activities that can get you active and excited, many of us choose not to participate for various reasons. Some of these reasons include the belief that these activities are expensive, lack of inclusion, and historical and systematic racism. This holiday season, VHEI has created a directory of some organizations and events around the state that will help get you moving and promote a positive state of mind. These free and fee-paying activities are designed to help you get outside and have some fun. If any events you are hosting or know about aren’t on our list, please reach out so we can add them! Visit the link below to view the full directory.
