inhale…exhale….inhale…exhale… Here our yoga teacher training students are practicing cueing a steady rhythm of breath during warm ups like cat/cow and half sun salutes.
inhale…exhale….inhale…exhale… As teachers, keeping tempo is helpful because it allows students to drop into a meditative, flow-like state with the breath as the focal point.

Sattva is the quality of clarity, harmony and illumination. It is most conducive to meditation, knowledge, and insight. Through yoga practice, we seek to cultivate sattva by minimizing the inner obstacles that keep us stuck so that we are more available to truth. 🕯️

December at LRY: INSIGHT 💭
Our theme this month is insight. One way to define insight is wisdom arising from within. You could also consider it as a noun, to turn sight inwards. December’s long and dark days are nature’s invitation to do just that...slow down, embrace stillness, and turn inward. These are the exact conditions for insight to emerge.
Of course, December is also a time of extreme busyness. Holidays, gatherings, capitalism’s insatiable messaging to buy, buy, buy as if true happiness is an external grab.
This presents a friction between nature’s call to turn inward and the outward pull of societal expectations. That’s why we’re hosting the Community of Care Challenge...to encourage consistency and commitment to practice, to highlight the importance of community, and to offer a way to ground during some of the busiest days of the year. An added bonus is that you might get quiet enough to hear yourself even in the noise.
Wishing you moments of laughter, lasting peace, and insight this holiday season.
with love,
Christina + LRY

Peel away the layers of stress and tension that your body carries, and connect with your true nature, or atman. This true nature is one of unconditional love. Unconditional love is the most powerful force in the universe. It is free from judgment and beyond fear. Through yoga and meditation practice we untangle ourselves from the web of our egos and begin to recognize that we are love.
We believe in the power of yoga to heal.
Do you suffer from high blood pressure, body aches, low back pain, indigestion, constipation, stress, headaches, depression, anxiety or general confusion? Yoga has been proven to help you heal from these and many other ailments. Physically, yoga keeps our bodies strong and limber. Mentally, yoga helps us maintain a clear and relaxed mind. Emotionally, it allows us to feel and work with our emotions, including our strong emotional reactions. Energetically and spiritually, yoga keeps our energy flowing and reminds us that we are all connected.
Yoga changes the world through transforming individual lives.
The goal of yoga is to know our selves. Erich Shiffman wrote in his book, The Spirit and Practice of Moving into Stillness, “if you want to know who you truly are you must let go of everything you think you know about yourself”. When, as individuals, we begin to take responsibility for ourselves, to take care of our minds and bodies, and to recognize that we are responsible for our actions, it becomes no longer possible to blame or condemn others for our situation. We start to realize that we are the only ones who can uplift ourselves and an informed confidence guides our actions, leaving us less dependent on others and more in control of our lives.
No one is free until we are all free.
It can takes a lot of energy to simply care for ourselves. Yet we gain more energy when we remember that our practice is not only for us. The world is full of suffering and full of beauty. Until we realize our part in both, we remain disconnected from the web that is our shared human experience. The tenant “no one is free until we are all free”, originally written by Fannie Lou Hamer, acknowledges our inter-dependence. When we use the tools of yoga and meditation to explore who we are, we recognize our connection with others and that our well-being depends on their well-being. All people deserve access to the tools of yoga and meditation in an effort to promote self knowledge, understanding and conscious action.
