Tuesday Tips from Davison Chiropractic: Preventing Back Pain and Injuries

Maintain Proper Posture
Struggling with back pain? Good posture is key to treatment and prevention! Whether sitting or standing, keep your shoulders back, spine aligned, and core engaged. Sit on your "sitbones" - the bones that hurt when you ride a bike too long. At work, adjust your chair so your feet are flat on the floor and your monitor is at eye level. At home, make yourself get up and walk around the house every hour.

Try this: set a reminder every 30 minutes to check your posture. Your spine will thank you! 💪

Flexible Fridays from Davison Chiropractic: Stretching Series 🧘‍♀️
Welcome to Flexible Fridays! Each week, we’ll share a simple stretch to help you stay flexible, reduce tension, and prevent injuries. Let’s keep your body moving and feeling great! 💪

Week 1: Cat-Cow Stretch 🐾
Start your day with the Cat-Cow Stretch to warm up your spine and improve flexibility.
How to do it:
Get on all fours, hands under shoulders, knees under hips.
Inhale, arch your back (Cow), lifting your head and tailbone.
Exhale, round your spine (Cat), tucking your chin and tailbone.
Repeat for 5-10 breaths.

🌟 Tip: Move slowly and breathe deeply to feel the stretch in your back and core.

Follow along each Friday for more stretches to keep you moving with ease. Have a favorite stretch? Share it with us! 💬

It has begun - patients are coming in with back pain related to spring lawn clean up. Bending and reaching, especially when combined with twisting, to reach to the back of a flower bed or under a shrub can lead to significant back pain. It can be immediate onset or may not hurt until the next day. If you are having pain, use ice not heat and give us a call at 781-229-6333. We will get you in and get you ready for outdoor activities. Summer in New England is too short to miss any of it!

Tips for Protecting Your Back While Doing Yard Work

Spring is here! Yard work, like gardening or mowing, can strain your back, especially with repetitive bending and lifting. Here are some practical tips to keep your back safe:

Warm Up Before Starting
Always take a few minutes to stretch or walk around to prepare your muscles. This helps prevent strains and injuries, making your body ready for the physical activity.

Use the Proper Tools
Using long-handled tools and lifting aids, like wagons, can minimize strain (ChiroHealthUSA). Incorporate tools that limit bending and reaching, which are common causes of back injury.

Lift Safely
When lifting heavy items, bend at the knees, not your back, and keep the load close to your body. Avoid twisting while lifting to reduce the risk of back pain.

Take Regular Breaks
Switch between tasks and rest often to avoid overexertion. This prevents muscle fatigue and reduces the chance of back injuries, especially during long sessions.

Fun Fact: Landscaping and Back Pain Statistics
Did you know? The American Chiropractic Association lists landscaping as one of the top 10 jobs causing back pain, highlighting why these tips are so important for both professionals and hobbyists (ChiroHealthUSA).
