MDSC is proud to be a supporting agency of the ADA 35 Rally at City Hall Plaza next Wednesday, July 23, starting at Noon, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Signed in July 1990, the ADA stands as a landmark civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in all areas of public life, including employment, education, transportation, and access to public services. But three and a half decades since its passage, the ADA's protections are perhaps more at risk than ever before. Disability rights are worth advocating for!

This free event will begin with a flag raising on Boston City Hall Plaza, followed by a 1/2-mile march along Tremont Street to the Embrace Memorial on Boston Common, where a rally will be held.

🚨 URGENT: Medicaid & SNAP at Risk!

Congress is moving forward with a bill that would cut $1 trillion from Medicaid and make devastating changes to both Medicaid and SNAP. A vote could happen as soon as today.

This would strip coverage and vital services from millions of people with disabilities and their families -including those in the Down syndrome community.

We can’t let this happen. The MDSC is working with partners nationwide to fight back - but we need YOUR voice, too.

Take 1 minute to contact your lawmakers NOW:

📣 Let’s protect the programs that help our loved ones live healthy, full lives. Every message counts. Thank you!

Congress is advancing a bill that would threaten essential programs like Medicaid and SNAP, and it could be voted on as early as today or tomorrow. A version of this bill has already passed the House. If passed, this legislation would cut $1...

MDSC Bilingual (Spanish) Family Support Specialist Tatiana Salinas gathered with Spanish-speaking families over the weekend for MDSC’s annual gathering at Castle Island, “a cherished tradition now going strong for four wonderful years,” Tatiana says. “This special time gave us the chance to reconnect with familiar faces and warmly welcome new ones. Many families made the journey -some driving over an hour - just to be part of this shared experience. What a true gift it is to belong to such a loving and supportive community. The sun was bright, but the gentle sea breeze kept us refreshed, and the joyful sounds of children playing by the water brought even more magic to the day. Moments like these remind us of the power of togetherness and how lucky we are to have each other. Until next year, we’ll carry these memories in our hearts.”

Tati

The Premier Resource for Down Syndrome Info, Networking & Advocacy in MA and beyond

The MDSC strives to ensure all individuals with Down syndrome in Massachusetts are valued, included, and given opportunities to pursue fulfilling lives by providing information, networking opportunities, and advocacy for people with Down syndrome and their families, educators, health care professionals, and the community-at-large.

The MDSC was founded in 1983 when parents met in a living room to share information about their children, provide support for each other and strategize how to educate their families, schools and communities. More than three decades later, the MDSC has over 3,500 members, an energetic Board of Directors, a dynamic management team, and a vision to ensure that every person with Down syndrome has the opportunity to reach his or her full potential.

Today, with our wealth of connections and expertise, the MDSC is prepared to meet the needs of all our families on a number of levels through longstanding, proven programs and bold new initiatives. The MDSC offers a broad array of programs to serve people with Down syndrome and their families throughout the state, including: our signature Parent's First Call Program, a volunteer, state-wide group of trained parent mentors available 24/7 that is a national model; two major annual conferences and an adult conference, which draw national and international experts in their fields; a Buddy Walk® Program that includes 3 Buddy Walks throughout the state; our Your Next Star employment initiative, which is opening the eyes of employers to the value of employees with Down syndrome; Self-Advocate Programs like Advocates in Motion and our Self-Advocate Advisory Council, which provide opportunities for teens and adults with Down syndrome while making empowerment a central component; and our public policy program, which has passed major legislation on the state level and been a leader nationally.
