✨ My practice is moving✨

I have so much to be grateful for; for my family, my friends and clients that have become friends. I'm grateful for the new connections I've made this year and the constant healing that happens when I get bodywork. Both have given me the opportunity to transition into this new space, a new mindset, and to let go of the old. Moving my practice is so much more than just a new location, it's a fresh start. Change can be so good if you embrace it.

Starting October 1st, 2024 my new address is
28 Howard St
Burlington, VT

Come visit me in the south end! Where it all started for me!

Is it already heated table and hot towel season? No, but it feels like it today! I'm enjoying the cooler weather and my clients are too as they slip into the warm table and get a surprise hot neck roll today.

What's your favorite added element during a massage aside from the many benefits of human touch?

Gearing up for a busy work week. Today I'm headed to Pilates to work on my strength and stability. The reformer is one of my favorite machines. I might even try for Friday as well, we'll see how it goes! So far I've been able to do one workout a week. It takes time to change my habits and it's been a slow process finding time for this. Just wanted to share and put it out there for more accountability!

Would love any suggestions you might have on how to work in strengthening between work and kids!

⚡ Persistent or Chronic Pain ⚡

Client quote "This is the highlight of my week. I can't wait to come back."

For people with chronic pain this is a deep truth. When they are on the table it's one of the few hours in the week they may have without pain.

Rewiring the brain takes time. It may take several sessions to get comfortable with the therapist, for the client to let their literal guard down, and for the nervous system to come back to balance. Muscle guarding happens when we experience pain or trauma, it's there to protect us from further injury. Even when the trauma is over our nervous system remembers and acts as if we are still under attack which increases our sympathetic response to stressors. Any further stressful situations amplify the feeling of attack (our fight or flight response) and increases tension and pain.

I can help calm your nervous system so that your muscles can let go, help to decrease your response to stress, help your nervous system remember what a balanced state is, and create balance in your tissue tensegrity. I won't recommend coming in once a month for these people anymore. I think that is a common interval for people who have gotten bodywork for several weeks or months. But when our pain level is high and persistent, these folks need regular times of rest and support from a healer (there are a lot of us out there!) and I'd love to help you on your journey. Don't hesitate to reach out with questions.

Fun fact you may not know about me. In my free time (usually after the littles are in bed) my husband and I like to play boardgames! This started about three years ago and when my husband gets into something he goes all in so we've got quite the collection now. I find this to be a great way to unwind from my day and use my brain in a way that focuses my attention on a puzzle or task. It's also a great way to connect with my partner, bonus!

This is a list of my top 9 games.. it's nerdy because this is a ranking engine app he insisted we use. It started because he asked what my top five games would be. After ranking all the games we have the list! It's pretty spot on from what I had come up with in my head. What are your favorite ways to unwind at the end of the day?

I'd like to help you move with more ease, feel a deeper connection to your body, and heal from pain. My primary focus is craniosacral therapy and myofascial release with a sprinkling of focus massage techniques to relieve muscle imbalance, prevent and/or recover from injury.

My approach is holistic. I use a combination of intent and intuition. You will feel cared for, mentally grounded, and physically aligned. With the use of gentle, non-threatening touch we can tell your nervous system that it is okay to let tension go. Fascial holding patterns can relax, unwind, and pain can heal.

I feel grateful to be able to hold space for you wherever you are today. Together we will work to restore balance in your tissue and nervous system. My hope is to make you feel safe enough to feel all of your feelings so that the energy/tension doesn't have to take up space in your body.

In case you're new to my page or curious what I do.. I've been a massage therapist for over 13 years. I blend several techniques into each session based on your symptoms and goals. My style of massage is always intended to induce a parasympathetic state and address acute or chronic pain related to posture, activities of daily living, or injury.

I have extensive knowledge of the body and how it moves from my PT background. I see a lot of people with acute and chronic shoulder and back pain and have recently started focusing on pelvic imbalance which can create a lot of unexplained pain around the rest of the body.

I use craniosacral therapy in each session because of the powerful healing benefits. Craniosacral therapy utilizes gentle manual techniques on our connective tissue, fascia. CST can release soft tissue restrictions, pain, and emotional holding patterns. It is very effective at relieving symptoms caused by whiplash, concussion and other traumatic injuries.

I am always taking new clients and happy to answer any questions you might have!

Someone just said to me they thought 90 minutes was too long on a massage table because their low back hurts and feels stiff when they're face down. That's where these guys come in. These are pelvic blocks that I use to rotate the pelvis to unwind fascia. They can also be used to tip the pelvis backward or posteriorly while you're face down to take pressure off your low back. If you have low back pain and haven't used these before you are in for a treat!

A client came in for their monthly scheduled massage with normal complaints and then showed me their lower leg. There was a lacrosse ball-sized red, swollen area on their lower leg that was hot to the touch. They had been watching it for several days.

Some back story.. They had recently had calf pain in the other leg and some months before had been to the ER for another issue and were indirectly told by their P*P that they were being a hypochondriac. Like many of us, we'd be a little offended and also probably avoid using the ER when something else like this shows up.

I, on the other hand, felt very concerned. We talked about the possibility of a blood clot and decided to proceed with the massage, avoiding the leg altogether. After the massage I insisted they be seen by a doctor. They went to urgent care that day and indeed it was a blood clot.

If this clot had moved up to the brain or lungs this could have caused serious complications. The client was obviously very grateful and I was also glad I listened to my instincts and insisted they be seen right away.

Our bodies hold onto memories of traumatic events in our lives that we haven't let go of even if our conscious mind forgets. We can experience these events again while getting bodywork as a way to release them from our tissue. Discomfort or emotions can rise up quickly, but if we allow them to flow can be an incredibly healing moment.

I had a client recently who experienced discomfort during treatment that they recalled felt like what happened to them when they were 5 years old. They had forgotten about this event for many years. They were able to move their body in a way that felt good to them which is how our bodies unwind fascial restrictions if we allow this movement. I always encourage my clients to move on the table whenever or however feels right to them. This is our body's innate wisdom. Don't overthink it.
