It’s been a rough week, Burlington. Please keep in mind that any additional rain we get in the next few days could lead to additional flooding because of saturated ground. Stay safe and don’t drive through barricades.

Speaking of staying safe, the Burlington Fire, NC and the Burlington Police Department-NC have been out there through all of this making multiple water rescues, keeping traffic off flooded streets, and more, all while continuing to respond to the emergencies they deal with every day.

Please give them a huge thank you when you see them around town.

The City of Mebane is updating the ongoing Water Shortage Response Plan, moving to Stage I Declaration of Voluntary Conservation, and reducing Stage V mandatory restrictions to reflect that the Graham—Mebane Water Treatment Plant is now partially operational to supply water to Mebane. The plant hopes to return to full Duke Energy primary power over the weekend using a scheduled ramp-up staged approach. Major repairs remain to be completed, but portions of the plant have returned to Duke Energy's primary power this morning.

Due to flooding from Tropical Storm Chantal, the Graham-Mebane Water Treatment Plant was submerged under six feet of water, and repairs continue.

Water production is significantly increasing quicker than originally estimated. However, this continues to be a multi-day process to restore normal operations for Mebane. During this period, discoloration of water may occur, but it remains safe for use. Graham continues to receive water from Burlington, while Mebane is prioritized in the plant's production.

𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐕 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬/𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐝.

City personnel and local law enforcement are actively enforcing compliance with these conservation measures.

If the Graham-Mebane Water Treatment Plant cannot maintain acceptable service levels, please be prepared to return to the original Stage V restrictions from the July 9 declaration.

This Water Shortage Plan Declaration of Voluntary Conservation is scheduled to remain in place over the weekend. Unless an emergency develops, the next CodeRED call is scheduled for early next week.

We appreciate your patience and support as we work toward fully restoring the Graham-Mebane Water Treatment Plant.
