UVM Nursing Celebrates a Historic White Coat Ceremony

This fall, the University of Vermont’s Department of Nursing hosted its largest-ever White Coat Ceremony, welcoming 208 students into clinical practice. Held at Ira Allen Chapel, the event marked a meaningful transition from classroom learning to hands-on patient care.

Keynote speaker Nena Rich, a UVM alumna and current global health doctoral candidate, shared powerful insights on building a nursing career that is resilient, impactful, and sustainable. Her message encouraged students to embrace the complexity of their paths and stay grounded in the values of compassionate care.

Faculty from across the department also welcomed students into a strong community of mentorship and support. Congratulations to all who are beginning this important journey in nursing—we’re proud to celebrate your commitment and future contributions to health care.
