Today I was able to enjoy my lunch mindfully…

Mindful eating is a practice of sitting and intentionally eating and enjoying your food. Mindful eating can mean observing and admiring your food, observing what or who is around you, giving thanks for who and what contributed to getting your food on your plate, giving thanks for the benefits you will receive, slowly chewing and swallowing, breathing slowly, noticing and savoring the taste, and feeling the nourishment rush to your cells. It can also mean noticing that your food doesn’t make you feel so good. Mindful eating is a practice of slowing down.

So often we eat while rushed, stressed, anxious, or distracted (screens/driving/multitasking!). When we do this, we do not absorb our nutrients properly, and digestive and energetic imbalances can occur. We do not give ourselves the opportunity to receive the nourishment we need, and to truly enjoy the experience of eating.

I admit that as a parent, many of my meals have become rushed or on the go, with little mindfulness. I am bringing this practice back into my life as much as possible, and you can too!

Try to eat at least one meal of the day with mindful intention and an attitude of gratitude. We can all come up with excuses, but the reality is, you can make this practice part of your busy life… and you may just find it sends positive ripples throughout your day, and to those around you.

How you do anything is how you do everything….

Taking a moment to say- my heart and thoughts are very much with the people affected by the violence and it’s repercussions in Israel, Gaza, and beyond.

I’ve just begun using social media more. One of the primary reasons that I have not posted much for years now, is that it has felt strange and disrespectful to be posting images and content of my comfortable life amidst such tragedy and horrors. I can’t think of a moment over the past several years when there wasn’t something unbelievable going on. At times I haven’t known what to say. And instead of saying something, I said nothing. I no longer want to operate this way. I see the value in both continuing to share my life and work, and expressing support and solidarity to those that are suffering and oppressed.

So as I post a silly video of mopping the floor with my hair, my heart is simultaneously feeling the collective emotions of sadness, anger, and fear - while remaining hopeful and praying for the well-being and greater good of all.

Love to all, and prayers for the people of Isreal, Gaza, and all those impacted by this tragedy.
